During this liturgical rite, the candidates express and the Church accepts their intention to respond to God's call to follow the way of Christ. we also welcome our participants - Nancy Leed and David Miller - as they continue to update and learn more about our Catholic faith. God showers His grace on the candidates and participants and we ask that you pray for them as they continue their journey. More information regarding the mass time on Nov. 24th will be in next week's bulletin. CHANGES DIRECTED THROUGH THE VATICAN**
TO BE IMPLEMENTED ON NOVEMBER 30TH /DECEMBER 1ST
THE FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT
**The Vatican determines how priests are to say the mass. The document they use for guidance is the Roman Missal. From time to time the Roman Missal is updated and changes are made. Some of these changes are listed.

1. The faithful should stand from the words of the priest "Pray brethren", to before the prayer over the gifts. This change of posture is made in order to assure that the faithful are standing for the start of the prayer over the gifts, similar to the posture for the other presidential prayers (the Collect, and the Prayer after Communion).

2. The faithful are asked to kneel during the Eucharistic Prayer and to remain kneeling through the singing of the Great Amen.

3. Songs or hymns may not be used in place of the Responsorial Psalm.

4. The Apostles' Creed is allowed to be recited during the Sundays of Easter, in order to help the faithful reflect upon their baptismal commitments.

5. The Book of Gospels is carried in the procession at the start of Mass; the
Lectionary is not carried in the procession. Lay readers are allowed to carry the Book of Gospels in the absence of a deacon, who would normally do so. The primacy of the Book of the Gospels in the Liturgy of the Word, and the tradition in both East and West of treating this book as one of the primary symbols of the presence of Christ at Mass are thus highlighted. Neither the Book of Gospels nor the Lectionary is ever carried out at the time of the Recessional.

6. During the kiss of peace, the priest generally should not leave the sanctuary. The priest may give the sign of peace to the ministers, but always remains within the sanctuary, so as not to disturb the celebration, unless it is a special occasion (wedding, funeral, etc.).

7. During the Distribution of Holy Communion, the faithful may make a simple bow of their head before receiving the Sacred Host in Holy Communion as well as before receiving the Precious Blood. Genuflection is not necessary

8. A single genuflection as you enter Church or your pew, and a single genuflection at the end of Mass, if the Eucharist is reserved in the sanctuary, offers due respect to the Blessed Sacrament..

9. Our standing Processional Cross with the figure of Christ on it, which stands in the sanctuary, must be visible to the faithful during Mass.

10. In the Diocese of the United States of America, crosses may be covered (veiled) from
the conclusion of the Mass on Saturday of the Fourth Week of Lent until the end of the
celebration of the Lord's Passion on Good Friday, Images in the Church may be covered from
the conclusion of the Mass on Saturday of the Fourth Week of Lent until the beginning of the

FEAST OF CHRIST THE KING
The Feast of Christ the King marks the last Sunday of the liturgical year. Known as the Church year, the new liturgical year begins with the first Sunday of Advent. Consequently, a new cycle of Sunday Mass readings, drawn from a different Gospel, will begin. The three cycles of Mass readings expose us to a broad sampling of Scripture. The Gospel of Matthew is featured in year A, Mark in year B, and Luke in year C. John's Gospel is featured on various Sundays throughout the year in each cycle. Today we are completing cycle A. Cycle B begins next weekend.

1: The faithful should stand from the words of the priest "Pray brethren", to before the prayer over the gifts.

2: The faithful are asked to kneel during the Eucharistic Prayer and to remain kneeling through the singing of the Great Amen.

3: Songs or hymns may not be used in place of the Responsorial Psalm.

4: The Book of Gospels is carried in the procession at the start of Mass; the Lectionary is not carried in the procession.

5: During the kiss of peace, the priest generally should not leave the sanctuary. The priest may give the sign of peace to the ministers.

6: During the Distribution of Holy Communion, the faithful may make a simple bow of their head before receiving the Sacred Host in Holy Communion as well as before receiving the Precious Blood. Genuflection is not necessary

7: A single genuflection as you enter Church at your pew, and a single genuflection at the end of Mass, if the Eucharist is reserved in the sanctuary, offers due respect to the Blessed Sacrament.

8: Our standing Processional Cross, with the figure of Christ on it, which stands in the sanctuary, must be visible to the faithful during Mass.

9: In the Diocese of the United States of America, crosses may be covered (veiled) from the conclusion of the Mass on Saturday of the 4th Week of Lent until the end of the celebration of the Lord's Passion on Good Friday, Images in the Church may be covered from the conclusion of the Mass on Saturday of the 4th Week of Lent until the beginning of the Easter Vigil.

COMMUNITY THANKSGIVING SERVICE - On Tuesday, Nov. 26th at 7:00 pm at Ascension Lutheran Church (corner Main & Burroughs) an interdenominational service will be held. The service will include prayers, scripture reading & song. Bring an offering of canned goods for the community pantry.
