Bulletins for November 14, 21, 28
BULLETIN FOR WEEK OF November 7th 2004
CHURCH OF CHRIST THE KING, 30 LAMARCK DR
32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time
|
SUNDAY SCRIPTURE READINGS
TODAY: 32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time
1st Reading - 2 Maccabees 7:1-2, 9-14
2nd Reading - 2 Thessalonians 2:16 - 3:5
Gospel - Luke 20:27-38
NEXT SUNDAY: 33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time
1st Reading - Malachi 3:19-20a
2nd Reading - 2 Thessalonians 3:7-12
Gospel - Luke 21:5-19
"Jesus said to them, 'The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob
is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for to him all are alive'" - Luke 20
QUESTION OF WEEK: How can Scripture be used in a way that is life-giving? How can it be
used in a way that is harmful?
FAITH RESPONSE: Consider making one book of the Bible your own by reading it all the way
through, down to the footnotes. (The New American Bible makes a great study Bible.)
Then pick up a book about that Scripture from your local Catholic bookstore for
deeper understanding.

BUSY HANDS - MANY BLESSINGS
Are you interested in helping others - but find it difficult to commit to a particular
time each week? Do you know how to knit, or are you willing to learn? Maybe you should
consider joining the CTK Prayer Shawl Ministry. Since this ministry first started in
February, over 90 shawls have been knit, which have been blessed by Msgr. Lichtenthal, and
given as gifts to parishioners who have serious illnesses, are shut-ins, or have a need to
be wrapped in prayers. Over 30 women have met and are taking an active part in the CTK
Prayer Shawl Ministry. At each of the weekly gatherings (Wednesday from 7:00-9:00 pm in
the Church Library), the women share a gathering prayer, and knit the shawls in a
prayerful, relaxed atmosphere. This a great project to work on as you wait for
appointments, travel, while watching television, or any time you have a free moment. You
are invited to join us at any time. For details call Linda Maslona at 839-2363.

given as gifts to parishioners who have serious illnesses, are shut-ins, or have a need to
be wrapped in prayers. Over 30 women have met and are taking an active part in the CTK
Prayer Shawl Ministry. At each of the weekly gatherings (Wednesday from 7:00-9:00 pm in
the Church Library), a number of women share a gathering prayer, and knit the shawls in a
prayerful, relaxed atmosphere. This a great project to work on as you wait for
appointments, travel, while watching television, or any time you have a free moment. You
are invited to join us at any time. For details call Linda Maslona at 839-2363.

Question of the Week: In these four weeks of Advent, what is the most important
preparation you will make for the coming of Christ?
Faith Response: Advent preparations will pull us in many directions: shopping,

PARISH HOLIDAY OUTREACH PROJECTS
This year, the tree in the vestibule of the Upper Church will be serving two of our
holiday parish outreach projects.
¢ The Giving Tree - GIFTS (UNWRAPPED) MUST BE RETURNED BY NEXT SUNDAY,
DECEMBER 5TH - Gifts this year will be for the Erie County Home in Alden. This is a
nursing home for people of all ages. Their needs are very basic because this home often
houses the poorest in the County, many of whom have no family or visitors. There are tags
on the tree with a list of a few items that may be donated - from shampoo, makeup and hair
supplies to music, pictures and sweatshirts. There will also be a complete list of
possible donations posted on the Social Justice Bulletin Board next to the tree, as well
as additional copies under the tree for you to take home.
¢ Mitten, Scarf & Hat Tree - GIFTS MUST BE RETURNED BY SUNDAY, DEC. 12TH - As
in the past, we will be asking for mittens, gloves, scarves and hats, which will be given
to St. Luke's Mission of Mercy and Immaculate Conception Church, Buffalo where according
to their Hispanic tradition, they will be distributed as gifts on Little Christmas
(Epiphany on Jan. 2).
CHRISTMAS TOY COLLECTION
The St. Vincent de Paul Society is collecting toys on the weekends of Dec. 4th & 5th,
and Dec. 11th & 12th, to be distributed to needy families for Christmas. Past
experiences have been very rewarding. Last year with your assistance, the society was able
to distribute over 1,000 toys during the Christmas Season. A box will be in the Upper
Church vestibule, ready to receive your gifts. The toy may be wrapped/unwrapped. If
wrapped please indicate the age level and boy or girl on the wrapper. Your generosity will
help a child have a happy holiday season. Thank you & have a Merry Christmas.
ADOPT A FAMILY FOR CHRISTMAS
The St. Vincent de Paul Society knows of several families who currently have a family
member undergoing treatment at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, that are currently
experiencing financial difficulties. Consequently, their holiday season is looking rather
bleak. If your family is interested in helping us adopt one of these families, by helping
them with support in the way of food and gifts, please contact Sue Cleary at 741-5043.
