A PARENT'S PRAYER

O Heavenly Father, make me a better parent.
Teach me to understand my children,
to listen patiently to what they have to say,
and to answer all their questions kindly.

Keep me from interrupting them or contradicting them.
Make me as courteous to them, as I would have them be to me.

Forbid that I should ever laugh at their mistakes,
or resort to shame or ridicule when they displease me.

May I never punish them for my own selfish satisfaction
or to show my power.

Let me not tempt my child to lie or steal.
And guide me hour by hour that I may demonstrate
by all I say and do, that honesty produces happiness.

Reduce, I pray, the meanness in me.
And when I am out of sorts, help me, O Lord to hold my tongue.

May I ever be mindful that my children are children and
I should not expect of them the judgements of adults.

Let me not rob them of the opportunity to wait on themselves,
and to make their own decisions.

Bless me with the bigness to grant them their
reasonable requests, and the courage to deny them privileges I know will do them harm.

Make them fair, just and kind. And fit me, O Lord,
to be loved, respected and limited by my children.
AMEN.

ANOTHER REASON FOR WANTING TO SPEND
1-HOUR EACH WEEK WITH JESUS IN THE BLESSED SACRAMENT:
Are you considering a nighttime hour? Jesus will make up for your loss of sleep. God is the giver of time. The sacrifice of time you give to Him in the middle of the night will come back to you. The joy you experience the next day in the gift you have given to God will make it seem as if you have made no sacrifice at all! If you have difficulty at work the next day, you can always go to bed one or two hours earlier on the night you have to get up. Or, if you get a little sleepy the next day, you can always go to bed earlier that night. Remember the reward of your sacrifices.

ANOTHER REASON FOR WANTING TO SPEND
1-HOUR EACH WEEK WITH JESUS IN THE BLESSED SACRAMENT:
What do you do in the Chapel?: This hour Jesus wants you to spend with Him is spent any way you want. You may bring your own prayer books, use the books in the chapel, read the Bible, pray the Rosary, or just sit, relax and enjoy the sweet peace that comes from simply being in the Presence of God. You may feel you can't pray well. Don't let this discourage you. The mere fact that you take time out at a specific time each week to spend an hour with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament pleases Him very much, and is in itself a prayer of great faith.

A Bereavement Support Group, sponsored by CTK Bereavement Committee has been organized for all persons grieving the death of a loved one. The program will consist of six sessions beginning Wednesday, September 11th, and every other Wednesday through November 20th. The program will be held in the Church Library. MISSION at CHRIST THE KING!

We are very excited to announce that Mission is coming to Christ the King Parish. Our first Mission, Mission I, will be held on the parish grounds and will take place in the evenings of October 19th to October 26th. Participation is limited so that each person has a full opportunity for individual spiritual growth.

Mission is a wonderful spiritual event that offers you the opportunity to experience Jesus in a deeper sense in the company of fellow parishioners. It consists of an eight night spiritual journey from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Each night is different and includes speakers, liturgy and personal reflection. Since each night builds off the previous nights, participation requires a commitment to be present at all nights.

Mission started in 1975 at St. Gerard's parish in Buffalo. Since then, through the encouragement of various priests, the dedication of many people and the intercession of the Holy Spirit, Mission has spread to many parishes throughout the diocese.

Mission is a time for education, personal reflection, prayer, laughter and enjoyment. The end result is a renewal and deepening of your understanding of our Faith as Catholics and a greater awareness of Jesus in your life.

For people already close to the Lord, Mission offers a chance to share Him in a community of people who try to be more Jesus centered in their everyday lives. For others, it is an opportunity to get reacquainted with the Lord on a personal basis and to see, feel and be comforted by His presence.

With all the pressures of daily activities Mission offers a chance to take a retreat from life and focus on your Faith. People having completed Mission regularly comment that the experience was worth the time invested.

For more information, please call Don & Joanne Clayback at 837-9176 or Dennis & Cathy Lennon at 835-7638.

Participation is limited! To register, call Melissa at the rectory at 839-1430. Registration will be taken on a first-come, first-serve basis.

A PRAYER FOR PARENTS
WITH CHILDREN AWAY AT SCHOOL
O Loving God and Source of Life, For many years You have blessed and challenged our family with a child. With Your grace we have seen our child grow in heart and mind, in body and spirit. In order to seek higher learning, our grown child is away from home, and we are anxious about the future. But we call upon Your grace, once again, to surrender the one that we love to the guidance of Your Spirit. May this child hear Your gentle call, and follow it to the destiny that You have always had in mind. Grant this in Your name, O Lord, Who are Father and Mother to all. Amen.
