We also will be addressing landscaping, sidewalks and pavement.
Letters to all parishioners will be sent our this week, and the target date weekend for pledges and returns is May 18th & 19th. We would appreciate a minimum contribution of $100 this year, but any contribution within your means will be graciously accepted. Your continual cooperation and generous response to the needs of the parish helps us realize our hopes and plans to improve our Parish community. We thank God for the many blessings He has bestowed on us, and we ask for your generous and positive response to this appeal.

1) Thank you for bringing my family back together;
2) Thank you for a healthy pregnancy.

ANOTHER REASON FOR WANTING TO SPEND
1-HOUR EACH WEEK WITH JESUS IN THE BLESSED SACRAMENT:
Fr. Bernard Vaughan, SJ, in one of his retreats, told of the advice once given to him by his doctor when he was feeling tired and rundown: 'Sit in the sun. Wrap yourself up well, and just sit in the sun. Nothing will do you more good.' He applied this to the spiritual life by saying, 'I ask you to spend much time basking in the sunshine of the Blessed Sacrament .. this is a great cure. Rest in the Blessed Sacrament and you will be enriched with His blessings.' Spend time with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament at least once a week.

PIPE ORGAN PORTRAITS
Mixture is the general name that refers to two or more ranks that sound together. This creates a more brilliant and permeated tone color. All mixture build up ensemble or solo tone into higher reaches of the harmonic series. This luminates the inner pitches of chords so that harmony is apparent in the sound. Up to about 1600 organs were composed mostly of mixture ranks which multiplied upward in pitch form the principal-like tones. Next Time: More about mixtures.

THE FEAST OF PENTECOST

"When the day of Pentecost arrived, all the believers were gathered together in one place. Suddenly, there was a noise from the sky, which sounded like a strong wind blowing, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then they saw what looked like tongues of fire spreading out, and each person there was touched by a tongue. They were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to talk in other languages as the Spirit enabled them to speak." (Acts 2:1-4)

THE MAY APEAL
TARGET WEEKEND - MAY 18th & 19th
Today is the Target Weekend of the 2002 May Appeal Campaign. We appreciate your support - both past and present - that helps make this Appeal a yearly success. We are asking for a minimum contribution of $100 this year, but any contribution within your means, more or less, will be graciously accepted.
Last year, due to your generous contributions, we were able to complete extensive renovations to the convent, rectory office and to the school (including the school kitchen). This year we need to turn our focus to the exterior of the campus. A few of the items from our project list include repairing our roof, gutters, and other parts of the facility, which were damaged during our storms of this past winter, a fact of life that many of you are familiar with. We also will be addressing landscaping, sidewalks and pavement.
Your continual cooperation and generous response to the needs of the parish helps us realize our hopes and plans to improve our Parish community. We thank God for the many blessings He has bestowed on us, and we ask for your generous and positive response to this appeal.

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!!!!

We find freedom when we find God;
we lose it when we lose Him. - Paul Scherer

A PRAYER AT A TIME OF NATIONAL DISASTER
God of perfect peace, violence and cruelty have no part with you. Accept the prayers we offer for our nation, and especially for those who have died or have been injured, all whose lives have been changed by the disasters that have taken place in New York City, Washington, and throughout our nation.
Give strength, wisdom, and direction to President Bush and his advisors as they address the magnitude of this tragedy.
For the families and friends of the injured, and those who have died, uphold and sustain them with your grace.
For all emergency personnel and all others responding to this disaster: protect them; give them strength, courage, and sound judgement.
Give wisdom to all of us at this time of confusion, perplexity, and pain. Keep us form rash judgement. Restore tranquility, peace and soundness to our lives.
We ask this through Christ our Savior and Lord. AMEN

MORE ABOUT MIXTURES ON THE ORGAN:
The design and construction of compound stops that exhibit regularly recurring breaks are collectively called "mixtures." The pitches of the individual pipes of these compound stops are said to "break back" by octaves (groups of 8-notes) to lower pitches in the sharper, high end of the scale. This produces the splendor in sound throughout the scale which is achieved by a "mixture." next mixture: New "mixtures for CTK

FAVORS GRANTED THROUGH PERPETUAL EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
The Adorers of the Perpetual Adoration wish to thank Jesus for the following favors:
1) Thank you for helping my sister make a decision she can live with.
2) Thank you for my cousin's successful surgery.

ANOTHER REASON FOR WANTING TO SPEND
1-HOUR EACH WEEK WITH JESUS IN THE BLESSED SACRAMENT:
The Eucharist is the greatest expression of God's love for you in the Divine Eucharist. Jesus gives you the gift of Himself, all He has, and all He is. St. Augustine says of the Holy Eucharist "Although God is all powerful, He is unable to give more, though supremely wise, He knows not how to give more, though vastly rich. He has not more to give. " Give Jesus the sacrifice of spending an hour with Him in the middle of the night and it will be the perfect expression of your appreciation for the gift of His infinite love for you in the Holy Eucharist.

CTK ORGANIZATION HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK
BISHOP'S COMMITTEE VISITORS PROGRAM
Bishop's Committee Visitors Program, begun in 1929, is a unique organization as it has been utilizing the talents of Catholic women in God's service for "His Little Ones' for over 60 years and is distinctive to the Diocese of Buffalo. The aims for the Visitors Program are to help young parents with the religious and moral training of their pre-school children: to give them a teaching tool through its calendar booklet, geared to the age of the child: and to help instill in these parents a greater knowledge of God as they use the booklet.
Today's families are faced with many changes and challenges. Through our "Thoughts for Christian Parent" booklet we are able to give them some guidelines and inspirations. These booklets, a present form the Bishop, are given out through the Diocese by Visitors at the Pre-Baptismal Meeting, at the Baptism, or at a Home Visit. At Christ the King Parish, a Visitor attends the once-a-month Pre-Baptismal Class, meeting the parents and briefly going through he booklet, pointing out some of the helpful suggestions. Fifteen minutes once a month is time well spent in meeting and talking with these young parents. Christ the King Parish's Bishop's Committee Visitors Group is in need of a few more volunteers to spend 2 or 3 turns a year at the Pre-Baptismal Class helping these new parents with the religious training of their children. Please call Irene Wingerter at 632-0646 or the Rectory at 839-1430 if you are interested in helping.

THE MAY APEAL
The annual May Appeal Drive has begun on a positive note. As of last Tuesday, $51,600 in donations and pledges has been collected. Your continual cooperation and generous response to the needs of the parish helps us realize our hopes and plans to improve our Parish community. We are asking for a minimum contribution of $100 this year, but any contribution within your means, more or less, will be gratefully accepted.

NEW PARISH COUNCIL MEMBERS SELECTED
OUR THANKS TO THE OUT-GOING MEMBERS
This past weekend, three parishioners were selected as the newest members to our Parish Council. They are: Martin Haumesser, Thomas Lasher II, and Joseph Sperrazza. They will be replacing three members whose 3-year terms have expired: Marilyn Dempsey, George Strubel and Cynthia Havas. Our special thanks to Cindy Havas who has served as president of the Parish Council for the past year, and for her responsible leadership in working with Msgr. Lichtenthal. Each of these members have given generously of their time and talent during their years of service. May God bless them and their families. We are sure to see them as very active parishioners in other aspects of Christ the King's parish life!
