THE ART OF DYING WELL
-- (You Only Get One Chance!) --
A presentation by
Father John Mergenhagen

Tuesday, April 16th
7:00 p.m. in the Upper Church

In this presentation we will learn what it means:
to accept our own death
to accept the death of others

The session will include three questions:
Ø Why is it more important to have a philosophy about death than it is to have a
philosophy about life?
Ø If death is not the end or even a new beginning, then what is it?
Ø How is the teaching on Purgatory a source of comfort and consolation?

In light of the tragedy of September 11, these are important issues for each of us to face. This evening is designed to help us in a healthy, positive way to accept death as a part of the life cycle. We will come to understand why it is more important to have a philosophy about death than about life. The "balancing act" will enable us to face death with plans ranging from making our will to designing our funeral liturgy. PIPE ORGAN PORTRAIT
What do we hear? We continue our journey through the sounds of the pipe organ in preparation for the installation of new ranks of pipes. A musical tone as our ear perceives it is not one single tone; it is a composite of several tones blended into unity. The single tone that we perceive has the same pitch as the lowest partial tone. This is called the fundamental tone. Next Time: More about what we hear…

PIPE ORGAN PORTRAIT
What do we hear? We know that a single tone is a combination of partials or frequencies in the complex tone made by an organ pipe. A good organ contains stops of fundamental pitch, or prime tone and ranks that sound the pitch of partial tones to carefully balance tone color. When several partials are heard on any given pitch, more brilliance and permutations of tone color create a vivid picture in the sound you hear. Next Time: Mixtures.

A VOCATION VIEW - Don't let your hearts be troubled. The Lord shows the way, just ask him. If God is calling you, call Father Leon Biernat at 847-5535.
