CALL TO WORSHIP
The Diocese of Buffalo has begun a yearlong education process to enhance the celebration
of the Eucharist within all the parishes of the diocese. This "Call to Worship"
is the result of Pope John Paul II's approval of the initiatives in the New General
Instruction for the Roman Missal in January 2000. This education process is taking place
in three phases. The First Phase, just completed, had over 440 priests and deacons taking
part in a workshop on the theology of the Church's Eucharistic celebration. The Second
Phase is now directed to all those who serve as ministers at the liturgy, especially
Eucharistic Ministers and Lectors. A letter was sent to Eucharistic Ministers and Lectors
this week requesting that they make every attempt to attend one of the two scheduled
sessions: Wednesday, Feb. 20th at St. Andrew's Parish, Kenmore, from 7:00-9:00 p.m., or
St. Gregory's on Saturday, March 2nd from 9:00-11:00 a.m.
The Third and final Phase of "Call to Worship" will take place this Spring, and
will be directed to the entire parish. Various materials will become available to provide
the ongoing appreciation of the importance of the Eucharist in the life of the Church. All
three phases are intended to enrich our already deep appreciation for the centrality of
the Eucharist in the mission of the Church. As Bishop Mansell has stated, "The
stronger our Eucharistic celebrations are, the stronger our devotion is to the Eucharist,
the stronger everything in the diocese will be."
RCIA - RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION
Everyone is invited to attend the RCIA Sessions. The next RCIA session will be Thursday,
February 7th at 7:00 pm in the Church Library. The topic of discussion will be on the

David at 839-1430.

ANOTHER REASON FOR WANTING TO SPEND
1-HOUR EACH WEEK WITH JESUS IN THE BLESSED SACRAMENT:
"Our Lord is available all the time, day and night, for anyone to come to Him to
praise Him, to pour out one's heart to Him, to ask for inspiration, to be consoled and
comforted in afflictions, to express sorrow for sin, to ask favors, to ask guidance, to
get encouragement, to get strength, to give thanks, and to be healed of spiritual and
physical infirmities."
OUTREACH
"There are many different gifts, but it is always the same spirit; there are
different ways of serving, but it is always the same spirit; there are different ways of
serving, but it is always the same Lord. There are many different forms of activity, but
in everybody it is the same God who is at work in them all."
(1 Cor., 12:4-6)
Can you share some of your gifts with others and commit 2-hours a week? We are currently
reaching out to approximately 37 parishioners through our Ministry to the Sick program,
either by visiting or bringing Communion. If you would like to become a member of our
Outreach Program, please contact Linda Maslona at 839-2363.

CTK ORGANIZATION HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK
THE SAINT VINCENT de PAUL SOCIETY
CHRIST THE KING CONFERENCE
The mission of the St. Vincent de Paul Society is to seek and find the forgotten, the
suffering, or the deprived and to bring them assistance in the spirit of God's love.
Through personal interaction, including visitation, needs are determined and support is
provided. Support may consist of giving food, clothing, furniture, bedding, appliances or
assistance with rent or utilities, but always with spiritual emphasis.
Our members visit the patients at VA Hospital and Roswell Park Cancer Institute and bring
them Holy Eucharist on a weekly basis. We also hold an annual clothing drive in the Fall
to help stock the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store at 1298 Main St., Buffalo.
We support other conferences in carrying out our mission, including conferences that are
limited by size, age of membership, finances, or by volume of requests for assistance. At
Christmas time, for instance, we provide through parish donations, toys, food and
financial assistance to inner city parishes, and other organizations in need of help
during the holiday season.
Our members help provide service in the St. Vincent de Paul Dining Room at 1298 Main
Street by preparing and serving meals. We also provide food baskets and clothing to those
in need and assist the local conferences with guidance and support.
If you are in need, or if you know of someone in need, please call Christ the King Rectory
at 839-1430, leave a message for the St. Vincent de Paul Society and your call will be
returned. If you wish to donate furniture, bedding, or appliances, please call the
downtown office at 882-3360 to arrange for pick-up.

CATHOLIC CHARITIES APPEAL 2002
"In the end, there are three things that last: faith, hope and love. The greatest of
these is love." St. Paul's version of Christian love centers on acts of charity. He
encourages the early Christian's to care for each other's needs by sharing their
possessions and consoling those in need. Catholic Charities carries on that mission in our
diocese through programs that give hope to thousands of families and individuals. For more
information visit our website at www.ccwny.org.
CTK ORGANIZATION HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK
PARISH ROSARY CHAIN
The Parish Rosary Chain has been in existence in our parish for quite a long time. People
are encouraged to call, to ask for prayers for a particular person or persons. There are
50 participants in the Rosary Chain, including 5 leaders, each with 4 participants whom
she/he calls. Each of these participants recites a decade of the rosary daily, remembering
the names which were called in, in addition to the illness or problem that particular
person endures. All intentions are kept confidential. The Rosary Chain differs from the
Church Bulletin Prayer List in this way, since the illness is also remembered.
As you know there are three Mysteries in the Rosary. Each group of 5 people (1 leader
& 4 participants) are assigned a different, specific Mystery (Joyful, Sorrowful, and
Glorious Mysteries), which will take 5 days to complete (5 decades are in a Rosary). When
the group completes the Joyful Mystery, the next day they start 5 days of the Sorrowful,
etc.
Anyone wishing to add a name to the list of those to be prayed for, or anyone wishing to
join in the Rosary Chain should call Margaret Babich at 839-0335.
YOUTH NEWS
The Teen Youth Group of CTK is an organization in which all high school teen parishioners
are automatically members. Teens are encouraged to participate in any or all events.
Members who feel a strong dedication and commitment to serve should consider a position on

volunteers, and parish teens to plan programs & events that seek to increase faith,
encourage friendship, and promote fun in a welcoming atmosphere. We invite you to become
an active part of teen life at Christ the King Church. For info on the items listed below,
call Mrs. Maryann Peer (835-4977) or Mrs. Debbi Testa (834-3586).

PIPE ORGAN "PORTRAITS"
The pipe organ is an instrument of universal breadth, sounding a variety of beauty for its
listeners. We are going to view the organ as an instrument of the Church, and learn of its
history. This article will run throughout Lent and Easter as we prepare for the
installation of new ranks of pipes for the great chorus of the Moller Pipe Organ in our
Upper Church.
In the Middle Ages, small "positiv" organs were used to perform polyphonic
(music with 2 or more parts) music in the Church. A choir and orchestra were usually
positioned in the chancel near the altar. A "large" organ was placed in the nave
to alternate with the choir in the performance of liturgical music. Verse by verse,
musicians would take turns in presenting the liturgical chants. Next Time: Diapason, the
basic organ tone

THE TIME IS NOW
We are here to stress in your mind that the "Time is Now". We have a very
unique Gift in this parish - namely, PERPETUAL ADORATION. Many Catholics fail to
comprehend what a Gift this is despite efforts made by our priest's to educate them
concerning this great Gift. Much of this lack of understanding is associated with the lack
of "FAITH". Faith is a mystery and also a gift. We can stress the importance of
Eucharistic Adoration over and over but if ears are unreceptive because of a lack of
"FAITH" the message gets lost.
Lent will be here shortly. Lent is an opportunity. It is an opportunity to involve
yourself with the Gift being offered in Christ the King Parish - Perpetual Adoration. Lent
is a time for many to realize that for them, The Time is Now."
Perpetual Adoration means 24-hours a day, seven days a week, 12 months a year, year
after year. Around the clock one or more people from our parish and neighboring parishes
are spending a priceless hour with Jesus in our Adoration Chapel. Adoration demands
commitment. God demands commitment. But the word "commitment" has lost meaning
to many of our generation.
For many of our current adorers, their lives and personal situations have been changed
forever. We have a book full with recorded gifts received by those adorers with faith in
Perpetual Adoration. These people have learned not to have faith in themselves but in God.
There is a normal attrition rate with a number of adorers with some moving from the
area, having babies, going to Florida for the winter, and yes, even dying. We are in
constant need of New Adorers. For many of you reading this notice, the "Time is
Now." God is calling you and giving you a special opportunity. God is waiting for
your response and not your excuse.
In case you wonder when exactly is the "Time is Now," it will be the weekend of
February 17th. We will have a new drive to find new adorers to fill the many vacant time
slots in our Perpetual Adoration Schedule. Invitations will be passed out in Church. For
many of you that INVITATION will read the "Time is Now."
Mark your Calendar for the weekend of February 17th. The "Time is Now" will
be the perfect Lenten experience for everyone. Listen to that voice within, reminding you
the "Time is Now."

PIPE ORGAN "PORTRAITS"
The pipe organ is an instrument of universal breadth, sounding a variety of beauty for its
listeners. Throughout Lent we are going to view the organ as an instrument of the church,
and learn of its history, as we prepare for the installation of new ranks of pipes for the
great chorus of the Moller Pipe Organ in our Upper Church.
The Diapason is the most basic tone in the organ, and the most important member of the
Diapason Chorus. It comes from the Greek and means "all the tones." The organist
and listener hear different timbres or tone colors from various positions in a church. The
Diapason has the characteristic sound of the Church organ that our ear likes to hear. This
stop on the organ clearly states the pitch for singers and listeners and is naturally easy
to identify. Next Time: "Flute Family of Stops"

"THE TIME IS NOW"
TO TAKE YOUR PART IN PERPETUAL EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
We are here to stress in your mind that the "Time is Now". We have a very
unique Gift in this parish - namely, PERPETUAL ADORATION. Many Catholics fail to
comprehend what a Gift this is despite efforts made by our priest's to educate them
concerning this great Gift. Much of this lack of understanding is associated with the lack
of "FAITH". Faith is a mystery and also a gift. We can stress the importance of
Eucharistic Adoration over and over but if ears are unreceptive because of a lack of
"FAITH" the message gets lost.
Lent is here, and it is an opportunity. It is an opportunity to involve yourself with
the Gift being offered in Christ the King Parish - Perpetual Adoration. Lent is a time for
many to realize that for them, The Time is Now."
There is a normal attrition rate with a number of adorers: some moving from the area,
having babies, going to Florida for the winter, and yes, even dying. We are in constant
need of New Adorers. For many of you reading this notice, the "Time is Now." God
is calling you and giving you a special opportunity. God is waiting for your response and
not your excuse.
In case you wonder when exactly is the "Time is Now," it is NOW, this
weekend. Our drive to find new adorers to fill the many vacant time slots in our Perpetual
Adoration Schedule begins today. You will find invitations in the Church Pews. We ask that
you consider giving 1-hour a week of your time to spend in adoration of the Lord. The
"Time is Now" could be the perfect Lenten experience for you. Listen to that
voice within, reminding you the "Time is Now."
CHURCH IN CENTRAL & EASTERN EUROPE
The second collection today, will be for the Church in Central and Eastern Europe. Since
Communism's collapse and the restoration of religious freedom, money is needed to rebuild
and instruct. Please be generous.

PIPE ORGAN "PORTRAITS - PART III
The Flute family of stops has many members that provide a warm and mellow sound as well as
some distinctive qualities. The Harmonic Flute for example, is light-toned and has a
mildly clear penetrating quality. It can be bright or softer in volume. (The term
"harmonic" refers to frequencies that each pipe creates). The Melodia is the
name of the flute stop on the Moeller organ at CTK. It has a smaller scaled sound and is
often used it to accompany vocal ensembles, or in combination with other stops. Next time:
