JOURNEY IN FAITH AND GRACE - MODELS OF FAITH RESTRUCTURING & LEADERSHIP
Considering the reduced number of priests who will be available for ministry in future
years, there will need to be fewer parishes as well as new models for organizing and
staffing those parishes.
In urban areas where there are many churches, the merging of parishes is an advisable
option. Mergers take many forms. There is no limit to the number of parishes that might
merge to form a single parish. The merged parish might use a current church site or build
a new church in a central location. In some cases the merged parish might use the church
on one site, but other parish buildings on another site. In a merger, the assets and
liabilities of the participating parishes are united and become the responsibility of the
merged parish.
PARISH COUNCIL NOMINATIONS DUE (Nominations Needed by Friday June 2)
The Parish Council meets the first Monday of every month from September - June. It is an
advisory group, performing the dual purpose of representing the parishioners to the
pastoral staff and the pastoral staff to the parishioners. The first meeting you would be
required to attend is scheduled for Monday, June 5th where both the current Parish Council
and new members will meet. Pentecost Sunday, June 4th, 2 new members of the Parish Council
will be chosen to serve a term of not more than 3 years. Nominations may be taken by any
current Council Member, or by completing the application form and returning it to the
Rectory or in the collection basket before June 2. Applicants must be at least 16 years of
age, and all nominations are subject to approval by Msgr. Lichtenthal.
Please complete and return by Friday, June 2.

There are currently, many situations in the diocese where there are linked parishes. These
are situations where one priest is given the responsibility for two parishes, and in a
couple of cases three parishes. To pastor more than two parishes has often proven
detrimental to the health of the priest and is therefore not a recommended option. For a
linked situation to work successfully, the pastor should be assisted by a pastoral
associate, and parish organizations and activities should be combined to the extent
possible. The mass schedule should be adjusted so that the pastor would be able to abide
by the canonical directives concerning the number of masses to be celebrated on a weekend.

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL-The most creative job in the world involves taste, fashion,
decorating, recreation, education, transportation, psychology, romance, cuisine, design,
literature, medicine, handicraft, art, horticulture, economics, government, community
relations, pediatric, geriatric, entertainment, maintenance, purchasing, direct mail, law,
accounting, religion, energy and management. Anyone who can handle these has to be
somebody special. Happy Mother's Day from the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
YOUR SPIRITUAL BABY AT THREE MONTHS DEVELOPMENT-Your baby is quite active in the womb
now-although his mother won't feel him for a couple of months. If his mother's womb had a
window, you could watch your spiritually adopted baby squint, swallow, and move his
tongue. He can make a tight fist if you touch his palm. He obtains oxygen his body needs
through the umbilical cord. The baby you are praying for weighs one ounce. What a miracle
he is!

IN THE MONTH OF MAY, Catholics show their devotion to the Blessed Virgin in many
wonderful ways
following closely the Second Vatican Council's recommendation that
the entire body of the faithful pour forth instant supplication to the Mother of God and
Mother of men that she, who aided the beginnings of the Church by her prayers, may now,
exalted as she is above all the angels and saints, intercede before her Son in the
fellowship of all the saints

Gospel - John 17:11B-19
"Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water
that I give him will never thirst; the water that I shall give him will become in him a
spring of water welling up to eternal life!. " 1 John 4:13-14
Faith Response: There exists a knowledge of God and of what refers to God which only comes
with holiness of life. Through the gift of wisdom the Holy Spirit places this knowledge
within the simple souls who love God.

VOCATION VIEWS-The first reading today tells of the apostles filling the vacancy made
by the absence of Judas. Each generation must find its own successors to spread the Word
of God to the next generation. Jesus prays "Father, as you have sent Me into the

vacancy in today's church. If you feel a call to a Church vocation, call Father Leon

CAN YOU RESIST COMFORT &CONVERSATION WITH JESUS IN THE ADORATION CHAPEL ?
Jesus says
. "Do not hesitate to ask for the goods of body and mind-for health,
for memory, for success. I can give everything, and I always give when the gifts would
make souls more holy. What do you want today, My child? Oh, if you knew how I long to do
you good!"."
No matter which option is chosen to restructure the parishes of the diocese, there is no
question about the need for more and more deacons and lay ecclesial ministers. This will
require both spiritual formation and theological education.
PARISH COUNCIL NOMINATIONS DUE (Nominations Needed by Friday June 2). The Parish
Council meets the first Monday of every month from September - June. It is an advisory
group, performing the dual purpose of representing the parishioners to the pastoral staff
and the pastoral staff to the parishioners. The first meeting you would be required to
attend is scheduled for Monday, June 5th where both the current Parish Council and new
members will meet. Pentecost Sunday, June 4th, 2 new members of the Parish Council will be
chosen to serve a term of not more than 3 years. Nominations may be taken by any current
Council Member, or by completing the application form and returning it to the Rectory or
in the collection basket before June 2. Applicants must be at least 16 years of age, and
all nominations are subject to approval by Msgr. Lichtenthal.
