WORLD DAY FOR CONSECRATED LIFE
This Sunday, we celebrate World Day for Consecrated Life. We recognize and give thanks for
those who have consecrated their lives to God and the Church through the vows of poverty,
chastity, and obedience. Some join a religious congregation or a secular institution.
Other remain single and make profession to God through the local bishop and are known as
consecrated virgins. The consecrated life is one way that men and women live out their
baptismal commitment as followers of Jesus.
BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GROUP
When we lose a loved one by death, we are wounded. Just as a wound does, we need to heal
from within, to express our thoughts and feelings, even when they seem crazy. A support
group is a safe haven where we can talk, cry, share our anger, guilt and fears with those
who understand and care.
A Bereavement Support Group, sponsored by CTK Bereavement Committee has been organized for
all persons grieving the death of a loved one. The program will consist of six sessions
beginning Tuesday, May 27th, and every other Tuesday through Tuesday, July 22nd, from
7:00-9:00 pm. The program will be held in the Msgr. McMahon Church Library. For more
information, please call Linda Maslona at 839-2363.
THE PARISH ROSARY CHAIN is made up of a group of parishioners who daily pray a decade
of the rosary for special requested intentions. If you have an intention for the Rosary
Chain, or you would like to become part of the Rosary Chain Ministry, call Irene Wingerter
at 632-0646. The Rosary Chain is ideal for those who wish to keep their intentions
private.
TODAY IS THE 42nd WORLD COMMUNICATIONS DAY. 101.7FM WLOF, your local Catholic radio
station, broadcasts Catholic programming 24/7. Our station operates with the blessing of
Bishop Edward U. Kmiec. We thank you for the opportunity to serve you, our listeners, in
your faith journey.
CAN'T KNIT? THERE ARE OTHER OPTIONS
CTK Parish is very proud to have an active
group of women & men, who knit / crochet prayer shawls for those who need to know of
God's comforting and healing presence. If you can't knit a prayer shawl, would you be able
to provide others with the needed yarn? 3 full skeins of yarn in the same color is needed
to create a prayer shawl. The yarn may be dropped off at the Rectory. If you can knit and
you'd like to come, the weekly group meets every Wednesday evening, in the Church Library
from 7-9 pm. Questions? Call the Rectory at 839-1430. This ministry makes giving feel so
good.
PLEASE REMEMBER: Do not park in front of the sidewalk entrances on Lamarck Drive. Keep
them clear for people to enter the sidewalk from the street. Thank you.
CATHOLIC CHARITIES
As of Tuesday, April 29t, our parish has collected $234,192 from 890 of our 2,200
families. Pledge cards have been sent out again to those who have not yet given. You are
asked to look into your heart and give a donation - no donation is too small as long as
you give as much as you are able.
Please consider increasing your donation this year, by pledging a larger amount, and
making payments in several installments. A gift of $100 is less than $2 per week. Try to
join the Large Gift donor group by giving a minimum of $250. If you are employed by a
firm, that "matches gifts" to charitable institutions, secure a form from your
personnel office and forward the completed form to Catholic Charities Appeal Office. Your
contribution is used to bring strength and stability to the community. Please give
generously. Submit a pledge to your parish, donate online at www.1-for-all.org, or call
856-4494 to make a pledge. Appeal 2008 Support It
ST. VINCENT de PAUL SOCIETY - The St. Vincent de Paul Society wishes to thank all

celebrated at 8:00 am and 10:00 a.m., and 12:15 p.m. The Saturday Vigil Mass will continue
to be celebrated at 4:30 pm.

The 8 Handicapped Parking Space in the Middle Parking Lot are reserved for those cars
bearing a handicapped sticker. Please do not use these spaces unless your car is marked as
handicapped.
EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
"We tend to think of prayer as a religious obligation. To Jesus, prayer was a
necessity, like eating and drinking. It didn't bring Him material goods, it didn't spare
Him from heartache and suffering. Not one time did He ask the Father to give Him anything.
Jesus regarded prayer as a necessity that should be practiced continuously and
persistently." - Alaska Radio Mission - September 2003
?There is always a need for Adorers: We are looking for people to sign-up to Adore at 7:00
a.m. on Friday, 9:00 a.m. on Sunday and 11:00 a.m. on Sunday. If you can fill one of these
time periods, please call Jeanne at 839-4061 or Linda at 839-1889. New Adorers are always
welcome. Thank you and God bless you!
DO YOU HAVE A FAMILY MEMBER SERVING OUR COUNTRY IN THE MILITARY, AT HOME OR OVERSEAS?
We will be glad to add their name to the bulletin board in the Vestibule of the Upper
Church, which has been dedicated to honor those who are in all arms of the military. This
display gives a visual reminder of the brave, dedicated men and women serving our country,
and reminds us to keep them in our personal prayers, as well as our prayers at Mass. Send
us a photograph (if available), and information including their name, rank, arm of
military and assignment - whether overseas or at home. This will be an on-going display,
so please continue to send in the names and pictures. Our thanks to the Respect Life
Committee for designing the display.

making payments in several installments. A gift of $100 is less than $2 per week. Try to
join the Large Gift donor group by giving a minimum of $250. If you are employed by a

A PRAYER FOR MOTHERS
God our Creator, we pray:
for new mothers, coming to terms with new responsibility;
for expectant mothers, wondering and waiting;
for those who are tired, stressed or depressed;
for those who struggle to balance the tasks of work and family;
for those who are unable to feed their children due to poverty;
for those whose children have physical, mental or emotional disabilities;
for those who raise children on their own;
for those who have lost a child;
for those who care for the children of others;
for those whose children have left home;
and for those whose desire to be a mother has not been fulfilled.
Bless all mothers, that their love may be deep and tender,
and that they may lead their children to know and do what is good,
living not for themselves alone, but for God and for others.
Amen.
MAY APPEAL
Target Weekend - May 17 & 18
Dear Parishioners,
This past week I sent you a letter regarding the annual May Appeal. The letter outlined
the major projects that need to be done this year. At the time the letter was prepared, I
didn't have the estimate for repairs to the Church Bell Tower, which is severely
deteriorated and must be repaired as soon as possible. The estimate for the exterior tower
and the interior tower and roof is $73,968.
In addition, gutter replacement on a section of the Church is estimated at $9,885. Stage
one of the School exterior masonary restoration is $33,200 and stage two is $32,550. This
is a total of $149,603. Please keep this in mind when you make your donation and/or
pledge.
This is Christ the King's only major capital improvement appeal and without your support,
it will be impossible to maintain our beautiful buildings and grounds.
Gratefully,
Fr. John

PASTORAL COUNSELING
Pastoral Counseling is a specialized extension of the Church's ministry of pastoral care.
It combines counseling skill with a sensitive attention to the religious dimension of
life. I believe that each person is a physical, cognitive, emotional and spiritual being.
Personal problems can create excessive stress in daily living in one or more of these
areas. Are you struggling in your marriage? Anxious, stressed, depressed, grieving? Are
you concerned about alcohol, drug or sexual problems in yourself or someone you love?? If
these or other issues are of concern, you are welcome to call for an appointment. Sliding
fee scale - Michele Jackson, OSF - 390-9836.

Stage
one of the School exterior masonry restoration is $33,200 and stage two is $32,550. This
is a total of $149,603. Please keep this in mind when you make your donation and/or
pledge.
This is Christ the King's only major capital improvement appeal and without your support,
it will be impossible to maintain our beautiful buildings and grounds.
Gratefully,
Fr. John

MEMORIAL DAY - MAY 30th (observed May 26, 2008)
Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day because it was a time set aside to
honor the nation's Civil War dead by decorating their graves. It was first widely observed
on May 30, 1868, to commemorate the sacrifices of Civil War soldiers, by proclamation of
General John A. Logan of the Grand Army of the Republic, an organization of former sailors
and soldiers. On May 5, 1868, Logan declared in General Order No. 11 that:
"
gather around their sacred remains and garland the passionless mounds above
them with choicest flowers of springtime
let us in this solemn presence renew our
pledges to aid and assist those whom they have left among us as sacred charges upon the
Nation's gratitude, ... the soldier's and sailor's widow and orphan."
During the first celebration of Decoration Day, General James Garfield made a speech at
Arlington National Cemetery, after which 5,000 participants helped to decorate the graves
of the more than 20,000 Union and Confederate soldiers buried in the cemetery. By the late
1800s, many communities across the country had begun to celebrate Memorial Day and, after
World War I, observances also began to honor those who had died in all of America's wars.
In 1971, Congress declared Memorial Day a national holiday to be celebrated the last
Monday in May. (Veterans Day, a day set aside to honor all veterans, living and dead, is
celebrated each year on November 11.)
Today, Memorial Day is celebrated at Arlington National Cemetery with a ceremony in
which a small American flag is placed on each grave. Also, it is customary for the
president or vice-president to give a speech honoring the contributions of the dead and
lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. About 5,000 people attend the ceremony
annually.
The "Memorial" in Memorial Day has been ignored by too many of us who are
beneficiaries of those who have given the ultimate sacrifice. Often we do not observe the
day as it should be, a day where we actively remember our ancestors, our family members,
our loved ones, our neighbors, and our friends who have given the ultimate sacrifice:
