ST. VINCENT de PAUL NEWS

Have you ever wondered what happens to the money you drop into the POOR BOX at Christ the King? Your generous giving, whenever you can help us, provides for the people in our parish. The following letter is from a parishioner who wrote to the St. Vincent de Paul Society to thank them for help they received last year. Please use the POOR BOXES and make any donation you can, so we can continue this work in our parish.

Dear Christ the King Parish & St. Vincent de Paul Society,
I would like to express my deepest gratitude to everyone that helped me, and my daughter, in our time of need. We had a situation where we had to start over, and basically had nothing. I came to Christ the King, and the parish helped me with food, food vouchers, Christmas for my daughter, clothes, and gift cards to Target. The parish had parishioners who donated items for me to set up my home.
Every month, someone calls to see how I and my daughter are doing. I now attend Adoration, to pray to thank these loving and giving people, but also to become closer to Jesus , to still help me become a stronger person, and to go on with life.
God Bless all these people for their help.

THE MAY APPEAL
Donations continue to come in for our annual May Appeal. The May Appeal funds are used to help maintain and improve our Parish properties. This year we plan to continue our building maintenance with upgrading the heating system in the church, updating the organ with new electronic controls, and updating the computer lab in the School.
As of Tuesday, June 8th, the May appeal returns total $77,103, with responses from 691 of our 2200 families (less than 1/3 of our parishioners). We would appreciate a minimum of $100 per family, but any contribution within your means will be gratefully accepted. Your continued cooperation and generous response to the needs of the parish, helps us realize our hopes and plans to improve our Parish community. We thank God for the many blessings He has bestowed on us, and we ask for your generous and positive response to this appeal.

ORDINATION OF PERMANENT DEACONS
This weekend, on Sat., June 12, Bishop Edward Grosz, Auxiliary Bishop of Buffalo, ordained five area men to the permanent diaconate. The candidates and their parishes are: Michael Canzoneri from Immaculate Conception Parish, Ransomville; Michael Comerford, Jr. from Queen of Heaven Parish, West Seneca; Robert Dobmeier from St. Agnes Parish, Buffalo; Jim Jaworski from Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish, Elma; and Kevin Smith from St. Gregory the Great Parish, Williamsville.

COME CELEBRATE A BABY SHOWER
This is the culmination of our Spiritual Adoptions, celebrating the lives of all the babies whose parents chose life. This weekend and next weekend, please bring baby shower gifts (Unwrapped) to the upper foyer and come celebrate with us! We are accepting any new or gently used items, which will be donated to various organizations that support needy mothers and their babies. May God bless you for your prayers and sacrifices. Countless lives were saved because of you! Next Sunday, June 20th, the Respect Life Committee will be holding a reception after 9:30 a.m. Mass in the Chapel Meeting Room. Everyone is invited to join us.

CATHOLIC COMMUNICATION CAMPAIGN
The second collection today will be for the Catholic Communication Campaign. It supports television programs such as the Daily Mass, the televised Sunday Mass, Our Daily Bread, and Diocesan Conversation, and the radio programs, Catholic Today and Western New York Catholic Weekly. Your contribution helps our diocesan Communications Office provide you with quality Catholic programming and publications as well as current news updates from our Web site.

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!!!

FATHER'S DAY NOVENA
From Sunday, June 20th through Tuesday, June 28th, there will be a 9-Day Novena of Masses in honor of our fathers. What a wonderful way to remember our fathers, both living and deceased. Father's Day cards & offering envelopes are in the back of Church. Please return them to the Rectory Office or in the collection basket.

FATHER'S DAY THOUGHTS
This Father's Day, Jesus is teaching all dads: If we try to "save our life, we will lose it."
Christian fatherhood is built upon personal sacrifice. The more we give of ourselves the more rewarding is our relationship with our children. This is the secret: the more you give, the more you get!

"If the new American father feels bewildered and even defeated, let him take comfort
from the fact that whatever he does in any fathering situation has a fifty percent chance of being right." -- Bill Cosby

"Blessed indeed is the man who hears many gentle voices call him father!" -- Lydia M.
Child

"I cannot think of any need in childhood as strong as the need for a father's protection." -- Sigmund Freud

"I watched a small man with thick calluses on both hands work fifteen and sixteen
hours a day. I saw him once literally bleed from the bottoms of his feet, a man who came here uneducated, alone, unable to speak the language, who taught me all I needed to know about faith and hard work by the simple eloquence of his example." -- Mario Cuomo

Every person needs several hugs a day. Hugs come in all shapes sizes and forms. Have you given any hugs today?

FATHERS AND CATHOLIC CHARITIES
As a father, you work year-round to bring strength and stability to your family, just as Catholic Charities strives to achieve strength and stability in our community. Families are the foundation of much of our work - we're here if there is a need. For information, contact your neighborhood office of Catholic Charities, call 856-4494 or go to www.ccwny.org.

COME CELEBRATE A BABY SHOWER
This is the culmination of our Spiritual Adoptions, celebrating the lives of all the babies whose parents chose life. This weekend, please bring baby shower gifts (Unwrapped) to the upper foyer and come celebrate with us! We are accepting any new or gently used items, which will be donated to various organizations that support needy mothers and their babies. May God bless you for your prayers and sacrifices. ST. VINCENT de PAUL SOCIETY NEWS
As you enter the doors of CTK, and glance at the poor boxes, do you ever think, I'd better give a donation, because maybe it will be my family who will need help from the Society next. It gives you a good feeling knowing that you helped another family in their time of need.

Many letters of thanks are sent to the Society. The following letter is another example of how your poor box donations help our fellow parishioners. It gives you a good feeling knowing that you helped another family in their time of need. Please give generously, so that we can continue our work to help CTK parishioners when needed.

To those at St. Vincent de Paul,

After an unexpected event, the financial structure of our family crumbled, leaving us frightened and distressed. We were soon blessed by your help, support and encouragement. Instead of worrying how we could pay our heating bill at Christmas, we felt the warm, giving hearts that beat within all of you.
Thank you so very much, your help will always be remembered.

A thankful parishioner of
Christ the King Parish

WHEN YOU SPEAK, WE LISTEN!
We are anxious to hear your voice to tell us of the needs of our neighbors. We will try to alleviate their immediate need for food, medicine, etc. Almsgiving is but one of many expressions of charity; informing the St. Vincent de Paul Society of another's needs is another expression of love. Call the Rectory at 839-1430 and leave a message for the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

BECOME A RESPITE VOLUNTEER!
The Alzheimer's Assoc. of WNY has launched a new respite program designed to provide temporary relief for caregivers of persons with memory loss. Volunteers visit in pairs for two hours every week or every other week. If you are interested in bringing respite to a caregiver and supervisory care, meaningful interaction, and friendship to an individual with memory loss, please contact Jennifer Baran at 626-0600 or www.Jennifer.Baran@alz.org. Free training will be provided.

A new ministry at Christ the King aims to preach the Gospel with their actions. The CTK Social Justice Committee will feed the hungry, clothe the naked, mentor, tutor, befriend and assist. If you are seeking a Community Volunteer opportunity, have ideas to offer, or are simply curious, we'd love you to join us at our opening meeting on Tuesday, July 13th at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel Meeting Room. (Please enter through the single door located under the canopy between the Church and the School). Contact Allison Killeen with any questions or ideas at 839-5225, or go to Allison.K@adelphia.net.

CAN YOU HELP SOMEONE GET TO WEEKLY MASS?
There are many people in our parish who would like to go to church, but are unable to drive. Outreach would like to be able to help them. If you would be willing to drive a fellow parishioner to church, OR, if you are a Eucharistic Minister, or would like to become one to bring the Eucharist to the homebound and sick, please call Linda Maslona at 839-2363.
