"Taking the five loaves and two fish, Jesus said the blessing over the, broke the, and gave them to the disciples to set before the crowd. All ate and were satisfied." - Luke 9

Question of the Week: What keeps me from doing more about the problem of world hunger?

Faith Response: From the local soup kitchen to global organizations like Loaves and Fishes, opportunities abound to feed the hungry. Some prefer to send livestock through groups like Heifer International, or work behind the scenes to get micro-loans to subsistence farmers. Choose prayerfully.

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!
Father's Day is a day of commemoration and celebration of Dad. It is a day to not only honor your father, but all men who have acted as a father figure in your life - whether as Stepfathers, Uncles, Grandfathers, or "Big Brothers."

FATHER'S DAY NOVENA OF MASSES
The Father's Day Novena is a wonderful way to remember our Fathers - living and deceased. A 9-day Novena of Masses begins on Father's Day, June 17th until Monday, June 25th. Father's Day Intention Cards and envelopes can be found in the back of Church. Please return the envelopes in next weeks collection, or to the Rectory as soon as possible.

ANOTHER REASON FOR WANTING TO SPEND
ONE HOUR WITH JESUS IN THE BLESSED SACRAMENT:
"The holy and glorious God is constantly inviting us to come to Him, to hold converse with Him, to ask for such things as we need, and to experience what a blessing there is in fellowship with Him." - Bishop Fulton J. Sheen

FAVORS GRANTED THROUGH PERPETUAL EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
1) Thank you for the prayers and petitions that have been answered.
2) Thank you for the lump that was found that was benign;

"David said to Nathan, 'I have sinned against the Lord.' Nathan answered David, 'The Lord in his part has forgiven your sin: you shall not die.'"

Question of the Week: How does knowing you are a sinner make it easier to be a saint?

Faith Response: Admit to the times when you have failed to love God, others, and yourself. Seek reconciliation where necessary. Forgive as you are forgiven.

FAMOUS T.V. DADS
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet (1952-1966), Ozzie, Harriet, David and Ricky, were family members in real life, too. Television's longest-running sitcom, was low on adventures - Harriet, rarely left the kitchen and Ozzie didn't venture much out of the yard. Ozzie's occupation, was never mentioned, so he had plenty of time to guide his sons through dating problems, career choices and marriage.
Father Knows Best (1954-1963) portrayed the stereotypical family, with Robert Young playing insurance agent Jim Anderson, a loving husband and the doting father of three children with the nicknames Princess, Bud, and Kitten.
Leave It to Beaver's (1957-1963) The Beave's ever-patient, accountant father, Hugh Beaumont's Ward, was always on hand to offer words of wisdom and to make sure his son learned a valuable lesson from his mistakes; and more often than not, Ward learned a few lessons himself.
The Andy Griffith Show (1960-1968), Andy Griffith was Mayberry, North Carolina's down-home Sheriff Andy Taylor, and was one of television's first single dads. Taylor handled fatherhood with a laid-back sense of humor. It helped that his son, Opie, didn't pose much of a threat to his authority, and Andy had Aunt Bee to manage the household responsibilities with a maternal touch.
My Three Sons (1960-1972) widower Steve Douglas (Fred MacMurray)), a bland aeronautical engineer, struggled a bit more than Andy Taylor but still managed to make raising three boys look like a day at the park. Douglas's father-in-law, "Bub" O'Casey, also pitched in at 837 Mill Street.
The Courtship of Eddie's Father (1969-1972), magazine editor and widowed father Tom Corbett was able to fit women into his schedule, thanks in part to the matchmaking efforts of his young son, Eddie. And who wasn't touched by Tom and Eddie's relationship as "best friends?"
The Brady Bunch (1969-1974). Mike Brady (Robert Reed), a widower architect father of three boys, also found time for a relationship. The union of Mike and Carol produced television's most famous blended family. Mike and his three sons and Carol and her three daughters complemented each other like pork chops and applesauce, with very few "step" issues.
The Cosby Show (1984-1993)Bill Cosby crafted his sitcom to resemble the traditional family. Dual-income families were the norm, rather than the exception, and with both Heathcliff and Clair working (Cliff was an obstetrician and Clair an attorney), Dr. Cliff assumed more responsibility with the kids than was seen in earlier sitcoms.
Roseanne (1988-1997) John Goodman's Dan headed what was much closer to the true traditional family: blue-collar parents struggling to raise 3 difficult kids. Dan often lost his temper, fought with wisecracking wife Roseanne, worried about money, was stymied by his kids and loved his beer and chips.
The Simpson's (1989-present) Homer has brought new meaning to the word underachiever. Through his bumbling ineptitude and foibles in everything from raising his kids to his career at the nuclear plant, Homer, thanks to consistently edgy writing, has managed to convey social, political and environmental messages.
Home Improvement (1991-1999) Tim "The Tool Man" Taylor (Tim Allen), had 3 adolescent boys who blew him away in intelligence and maturity. Though successful with his cable handy-man show, Tim relied on his wife for nearly all the serious decision-making.

COME JOIN THE KNITTING FUN!
The Prayer Shawl Ministry has knitted, blessed and distributed over 400 prayer shawls to those who are sick, grieving or going through a difficult time. In order to keep up with the demand, we need knitters or crocheters who are willing to spend a couple of hours a week doing what we love to do. We meet every Wednesday evening in the air-conditioned Church Library from 7:00-9:00 p.m. All you need to bring are needles - size 11 or 13 - we supply the yarn.

Also, if you will be moving out of the parish or if you no longer consider yourself a parishioner, please notify us, so that we can remove you from our census. Please call the parish Rectory at 839-1430.
