 HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!!!

Lord of heaven, hear our prayer,

for the special part of earth

we know as our homeland;

for the country of wonderful variety

that we call the United States of America.

For our beginnings we give you thanks

on this our nation’s birthday!

May we never declare our independence

of Your law, and may we strive to become

still more free of all prejudice and hate.

Help us, holy God.

Your Spirit makes us free.

FOURTH OF JULY HOLIDAY…

On the Tuesday, July 4th the Rectory will be closed in honor of the holiday.  It will reopen on Wednesday at 8:30 a.m.

FIRST FRIDAY

Friday of this week is the First Friday for the month of July.  Masses will be at 6:55 and 8:00 a.m.

ROSARY AND ALTAR SOCIETY

We will recite the Rosary after the 8:00 a.m. Mass on Friday, July 7, and then go to the Wehrle Restaurant for a Dutch-treat breakfast.  For reservations call Virginia Harder at 839-0230 before noon on Thursday, July 6th.  All women of the parish are welcome.

PRE-BAPTISMAL CLASS

The next pre-baptismal class will be held on Wednesday, July 12th at 7:00 p.m. in the Church Library.  If you are planning to attend, please call the Rectory at 839-1430 to make a reservation.  Please park in the parking lot between the Church and the School and enter through the double doors to the right of the glass-enclosed elevator entrance.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION …

The Franciscan Missionary who requested your generous contributions for the “cow” was Father Sereno Baiardi, OFM.  He came in the place of Father Rafael Abasolo, OFM.  Father Baiardi requested our help in purchasing cows at $70 each.  These cows would be used for milk, meat, and dung.  The daily life, Father Baiardi described was very primitive and harsh, and he obviously touched the heart of our parishioners.   There are a total of 121 individual donations made of $70 or more to purchase a “cow”  (including 17 donations made by non-parishioners just visiting CTK).  CTK Parishioners and visitors have contributed sufficient funds to purchase 215 cows for the mission.   God bless you all.

THE MAY APPEAL

As of Tuesday, June 27th, a total of $62,822.00 has been received, including $11,017.00 pledged.  If you have not yet returned your May Appeal Card, please place it in the collection basket or return it to the Rectory.  May we suggest a minimum contribution of $100 this year, however, any contribution, more or less, within your means is greatly appreciated.  You may make pledges and spread your payments out.  Reminder notices will be sent out in August, November and February.

PRAYER FOR PERPETUAL ADORATION

We pray to make Jesus loved in the Blessed Sacrament,

and to make the Eucharist, through Perpetual Adoration,

the very center of Christ the King Parish.”   AMEN

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

The Blessed Sacrament Chapel of Perpetual Adoration has been well received by our parishioners and parishioners of  neighboring parishes.  We were told that many blessings will come to the Church and Parish because of the Adoration and prayers of all who attend.

            One such blessing is the Mission Collection this year.  Fr. Sereno Baiardi, O.F.M. who came to our parish was not scheduled to come here, but was to go to a parish in California.  A last-minute switch, brought Fr. Sereno to us.  His sermon touched our people as never before.  Last year’s mission collection for the Norbertines, brought $5,700.  This year’s collection was nearly “tripled” to a record $15,130.77!  I believe that Christ is working in ways we will never understand.  The collection was delayed a week , the summer schedule had started so we had one less Mass,  and the attendance was low this past weekend – BUT, the collection surpassed all expectations.   COINCIDENCE?

Some Information About the Monstrance and the Blessed Sacrament

            As you look at the Monstrance holding the Sacred Host, the silver decorations around the host are:

=At the top, a dove – the symbol of the Holy Spirit.  At the baptism of the Lord, a

                        dove  appeared and a voice from heaven said “This is my beloved Son;”

=The four winged creatures – are symbols of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, the

four evangelists;

=At the bottom, a Pelican – a symbol of the Eucharist, since the Pelican fills its

enormous bill with fish to feed its young and if it can find no food will feed his brood with his own flesh!

            The Blessed Sacrament will be renewed after the 6:55 or 8:00 a.m. Mass every First Friday.

Adorers are always welcomed.  Please sign up if you can commit yourself to a particular time slot.  Four adorers is not too many for any time slot.  Hopefully all hours will have at least four or more.

Thanks for your cooperation and may God’s Blessing come in abundance to all.

FAVORS GRANTED THROUGH PRAYERS TO THE EUCHARIST

1)                    Successful by-pass surgery;

2)          For the healing of an injured knee;

TODAY’S CATHOLIC CHARITIES – Finding New Independence

It may be the 4th of July, but some of us aren’t celebrating.  New independence is hard to find when facing the break-up of a long-term relationship.   Catholic Charities Marriage Counseling Center is offering a support group to help separated or divorced individuals deal and work through this difficult time.  Call 839-4406 for more information or visit www.ccwny.org , “Current Events”.

PHONES FOR EMERGENCY USE

 are located in the Ushers' Room (off of the Church Vestibule, next to the Msgr. McMahon Church Library) AND in the Kitchen in the Chapel Meeting Room (next to the Lower Church).

HEARING ASSISTANCE SYSTEMS

Both of our Churches are set up to aid those who are hard-of-hearing, and those who currently use hearing aids.  All hearing assistance items are stored on shelves in the Usher's Room, including information on the systems and instructions for use.  We have two systems available:

(1)     A "Mini Earphone" & receiver - A earphone you place directly into your ear;

(2)     "Neckloop Telecoil Couplers" – Magnetically couples the audio output from a Williams Sound unit into a hearing aid equipped with a telephone "T" coil.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

Now that the School year has come to a close, hopefully the material your child learned will be retained.  As parents, one way to help insure some carryover is to review what your child has learned this past year.   Giving closure to the year doesn’t mean “it’s over, we’re finished”, it means that there are no more scheduled classes until September.

It is your responsibility as parents to encourage and provide spiritual growth to your child during the summer months.  The most important way that your can do this is by attending weekly Mass.  You can also as a family:  receive the sacrament of  Reconciliation at last once during the summer, pray before meals, pray the Rosary, say morning and evening prayers, and read the Bible and Bible stories to younger children.

            Registration for next year’s program is now due!

A VOCATION VIEW

Life can remind us of life-eternal; Death can remind us of death-eternal.  Each day we must choose to live or die physically or spiritually.  What we do daily either builds us up or tears us down.  Priest and religious are unique proclaimers of eternal life.   If you feel God is calling you to be one, call Father Leon Biernat at 847-5535.

 NOTES FROM MUSIC MINISTRY

            Liturgy from its root meaning, is “something that people do together.”  In a religious context, the word signifies people who come together to give expression to their faith.   People of faith come together to sing, pray, listen, respond and share.  Come together and Participate in your music ministry at CTK.

As the summer month’s approach and our busy schedules offer us some additional time, it is a perfect time to participate in the Summer Music Ministry at CTK!  Do you have a favorite hymn?  Would you like to be part of a small vocal or instrumental ensemble?  Would your family like to sing and worship together?

            The summer Music Ministry can include a special presentation at any one of the weekend liturgies and a teen ensemble, a men’s ensemble, and family members singing together, are all possibilities.  You can make it happen simply by calling the Director of Music at 839-1430 ext. 212 to fill a convenient place in the schedule.  Please call soon

The response is spoken though you do not hear it. Grazie. St. Vincent de Paul Society.
