…Those who provided us with the wonderful music this year: Christina Shrewsbury, our Director of Music Ministry, the Adult Choir, the Children's Youth Choir, the Neighborhood Choir, and all the joyful singers and instrumentalists who have prepared, rehearsed and performed special music through this season. Thank you to those who performed in the Advent Chamber Concert Series, and the Lessons and Carols Program.
…The Decorating Committee: Those men and women who gave of their time to decorate the outside and inside of the Church. The churches are very festive and have added to our enjoyment of the Christmas season.
…The Altar Committee: for the wonderful joy the flower arrangements brought us. It is truly a labor of love.
…Dan Staszak, our maintenance Supervisor, who always works above and beyond, especially in this wintry weather. The grounds during the summer are meticulously kept. In the winter, Dan puts many hours into keeping the Church and School entrances clear of snow. His hard work is truly appreciated. Thank you also to Eric Voglmayr who works with Dan to keep the sidewalks clear, and is responsible for the cleaning of the Churches.
…Pat Wiedenbeck, who helps to decorate the front door of the Rectory Office with beautifully decorated wreaths year-round. It is very much appreciated.
…Jim Valone, our parish Webmaster, who weekly puts the bulletin on the Church website.
…To all others, whose quiet reliability helps our parish to function smoothly, not only during the Christmas holidays, but year-round: The Lectors, Eucharistic ministers and Altar Servers, who are organized under Renée Villa, our Pastoral Ministers; the Adult Altar Servers and Mike Summers for arranging coverage for funerals; the Outreach, Bereavement and Prayer Shawl Committees which are run by Linda Maslona; our Parish council Members, CTK Principal JoAnn Mikulec and the School Teachers; Religious Education Director, Peggy Page and the volunteer Teachers, and our Youth Ministers Mary Ann Peer and Debbi Testa.

CTK SENIOR CITIZENS GROUP
The CTK Senior Citizens Group meets in the Chapel Meeting Room for an afternoon of fun on the 1st & 3rd Thursday of each month. Please join us on Thursday, January 5th, from 1:00-4:00 in the Chapel Meeting Room for an afternoon of coffee and cards - pinochle, bridge, poker, or just to meet other seniors from CTK. Please park in the large parking lot,. Only use the inside parking lot if you are handicapped.

FIRST FRIDAY
Friday of this week is the first Friday for the month of January. Masses are at 6:55 and 8:45 a.m. After mass, the Rosary and Altar Society will recite the Rosary and then go the Wehrle Restaurant for a Dutch-treat breakfast. For reservations call Virginia Harder at 839-0230 before noon on Thursday, January 5th. All Women of the Parish are welcome.

HOLY NAME SOCIETY
Next Sunday, the Holy Name Society, their friends and family will attend the 8:00 a.m. Mass and sit together as a group. After mass, coffee, donuts, and bagels will be served in the4 Church Library. All parishioners are invited to this breakfast.

MEN'S SCRIPTURE AND PRAYER GROUP
A Scripture and Prayer Group for Men, is offered on the 2nd and 4th Monday evenings of the month, in the Msgr. McMahon Library beginning at 7:30 p.m. An invitation to pray with other Catholic Men from 8:15-9:00 p.m. is also extended. For more details, call Deacon Norm at 839-0322. The next session is on Monday, January 9th.

BIBLE BUDDIES
You and your pre-school children ages 2-4 are invited to join us on either Wednesday, or Thursday, from 10:00-10:30 in the Chapel Meeting Room (please enter through the single door under the overhang, between the Church and the School). We will share a story with your child and help them to learn more about God and the Bible, and they will make something special to bring home. The two sessions offered are identical, so you may attend either. Please contact Adele Kraus at 839-5340 for more details.

PRE-BAPTISMAL CLASS
The next pre-Baptismal Class will be held on Tuesday, January 17th at 7:00 p.m. in the Msgr. McMahon Church Library. If you are planning to attend, please call the Rectory at 839-1430 to make a reservation. Please enter the Church through the doors on the circular driveway on Lamarck Drive.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
Have a Joyous New Year!
There are no Religious Education Classes on Monday, January 2nd. Classes will resume on Monday, January 9th.
Grade 7: Classes will meet on Monday, January 9th. Information will be mailed on Tuesday, January 3rd. Only students who registered in September will receive this mailing.
Grade 9: Classes will meet on Sunday, January 8th. Teachers have contacted their students in regard to time and place for class.

VOCATION VIEW - Mary and Joseph brought froth the Son of God to the world this day. May parents identify with their example, not only by praying faithfully for an increase in religious vocations, but promise God to not stand in the way if God should choose their son or daughter to "follow" Him. YOUTH NEWS

¢ Diocesan Youth Convention - This annual 3-day event takes place from Feb. 17th- 19th (on Presidents Day Weekend) at Adam's Mark Hotel, Buffalo. Approximately 900 teens from all over the Diocese attend this weekend, which includes workshops, special liturgies, dances, a coffee house, and awards. This is a great opportunity to come with your friends to learn more about your Catholic faith, meet new people, and increase your understanding of the role of young people in our Church. The Cost is $149 (all inclusive).
Registration will be taken on Sunday Jan. 8th at the Youth group meeting and throughout the week until Sunday Jan. 15th by calling Mrs. Peer at 835-4977. Keep in mind that partial packages are available for those unable to attend the entire weekend. Pricing for partial packages and more detailed convention information can be found online at www.BuffaloDiocese.org/youth. Permission Slips are required and can be found on-line or in the back of Church

THE ERIE COUNTY HOME thanks parishioners from CTK for their donations and thoughtfulness. The gifts donated helps to brighten the days of the residents.

EXTRA CALENDARS - This is the time of year when many of us end up with various calendars for the New Year, that we will never use or need. Did you know that many of the patrons of the St. Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen never own a calendar? If you have any extra calendars, please drop them off at the Rectory - they will be appreciated.

November 1, 2005 - February 28, 2006: Parish Discernment
" Formal discussion/discernment by parish council, expanded council, or other group of active parishioners. The pastor, in consultation with key parishioners or staff, will decide the composition of the group. Discussion/discernment materials will be provided by the diocese.
" Parishioners will be invited to pray for the success of the discernment process.
" Parishioners will be kept informed about the reasons for pastoral/school reorganization.
" Parishioners will be kept informed about the formal discussions in their parish and proposals to be made to a Regional Cluster and/or Vicariate Council.
" The diocese should be notified as soon as possible of any schools considered nonviable for the2006-2007.

Deacon Don Watkins will explore "Dealing with Difficult People" at the next session of Come and See on Thursday, January 5th at 7:30 pm in St. Benedict Church. Discussion topics include bereavement, divorce and separation, annulments, life issues, questions about HIV/Aid's, problems with the Church, coping with cancer. No cost. No reservations required. THE PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY meets every Wed. evening from 7-9 pm in the Church Library. Prayer Shawls are knit, blessed and given as gifts to parishioners who are shut-ins, have serious illnesses, or those who have a need to be wrapped in prayers. For details call Linda Maslona at 839-2363. If you can't participate, but wish to help, we would appreciate donations of 3 complete skeins of one color yarn, used to knit a prayer shawl.

ROSARY CHAIN - There are a group of parishioners who pray a daily rosary for special intentions requested through the Parish Rosary Chain. If you have an intention for the Rosary Chain, or if you would like to become part of the Rosary Chain Ministry, call Irene Wingerter at 632-0646. The Rosary Chain is ideal for those who wish to keep their intention private.

THE GIFT OF PRAYER - Special occasion cards are available at the Rectory, which with your prayer of the rosary are available with sentiments for birthdays, weddings, get well, sympathy, thank you, and anniversary of wedding or death. These cards are only $1.50 each.

RECTORY OFFICE HOURS - The Rectory will be closed on Monday, January 2, 2006. It will reopen on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.

SCRAPBOOKING FOR SENIORS
The Scrapbook for Seniors group meets every Monday from 11:00-1:00 p.m., in the Chapel Meeting Room to compile a scrapbook of their most treasured memories and life stories. Parish Outreach will help you organize your photos, mementos, and thoughts. You'll receive a photo album, pen, tape for photographs and sheets to take home. Cost is $10 and you may join at any time. RESPECT LIFE SUNDAY
On Sunday, January 22nd, our parish will observe the 33rd Anniversary of the Roe v. Wade Decision at the 9:30 a.m. Mass. At 9:00 that morning, the Rosary for Life will be recited at 9:00 a.m. prior to the start of Mass. After mass, you will be given the opportunity to spiritually adopt an unborn child in danger of abortion, as well as care for the physical needs of children and their families through the Bottles for Babies Program, which will benefit Harvest House. Together, let us build a culture of life.

MARCH FOR LIFE
A CTK Parish delegation is forming to travel to Washington, DC to participate in the National March for Life events held on Sunday, January 22nd and Monday, January 23rd. March 1 - July 31, 2006: Cluster Meetings
" Large Vicariates should divide into regional planning clusters.
" Cluster membership will consist of the pastor and at least two parishioners. The exact number can be decided by the pastors involved and may depend on the size of the cluster. If there is a parish school, or a regional school in the cluster, the principal(s) should be invited to attend.
" The cluster representatives will review the ideas and suggestions from the parishes regarding the reconfiguration of parishes and schools. The cluster group will then engage in its own discernment process.
" The cluster will send a cluster proposal to the Vicariate Council regarding parishes and schools within the cluster.
" Cluster participants will keep their parishioners apprised of the work of the cluster.

ROSARY CHAIN - There are a group of parishioners who pray a daily rosary for special intentions requested through the Parish Rosary Chain. If you have an intention for the Rosary Chain, or if you would like to become part of the Rosary Chain Ministry, call Irene Wingerter at 632-0646. This week, January 9th-13th, is dedicated to National Vocation Awareness Week. By our baptism we are commissioned to follow Jesus. SCRAPBOOKING FOR SENIORS
The Scrapbook for Seniors group meets every Monday from 11:00-1:00 p.m., in the Chapel Meeting Room to compile a scrapbook of their most treasured memories and life stories. Parish Outreach will help you organize your photos, mementos, and thoughts. You'll receive a photo album, pen, tape for photographs and sheets to take home. Cost is $10 and you may join at any time. THE PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY
This ministry meets every Wednesday evening from 7-9 pm in the Church Library. Prayer Shawls are knit, blessed and given as gifts to parishioners who are shut-ins, have serious illnesses, or those who have a need to be wrapped in prayers. ¢ Diocesan Youth Convention - This annual 3-day event takes place from Feb. 17th- 19th (on Presidents Day Weekend) at Adam's Mark Hotel, Buffalo. Approximately 900 teens from all over the Diocese attend this weekend, which includes workshops, special liturgies, dances, a coffee house, and awards. This is a great opportunity to come with your friends to learn more about your Catholic faith, meet new people, and increase your understanding of the role of young people in our Church. The Cost is $149 (all inclusive).

" On Sunday, January 22nd, our parish will observe the 33rd Anniversary of the Roe v. Wade Decision at the 9:30 a.m. Mass. At 9:00 that morning, the Rosary for Life will be recited at 9:00 a.m. prior to the start of Mass.
" After mass, you will be given the opportunity to spiritually adopt an unborn child in danger of abortion, as well as care for the physical needs of children and their families through the Bottles for Babies Program, which will benefit Harvest House. Together, let us build a culture of life.
" Also available, will be electric candles which the Respect Life Ministry is selling to encourage everyone to "put a candle in your window" on the evening of January 22nd, as a witness to the unborn children who have been killed under Roe v. Wade.

" Membership on the Vicariate Council should follow diocesan guidelines but could be expanded at the discretion of the vicar.
" The Vicariate Council will review the proposals from the regional clusters (or from the parishes in those cases where the vicariate was not large enough to necessitate regional clusters).
" Proposals for restructuring must meet diocesan criteria. Adjustments to proposals should be made in dialogue with the planning cluster or individual parishes.

From January 1, 2007-December 31, 2007: Diocesan Review of Proposals
" The Diocesan Strategic Planning Commission will review recommendations for restructuring. Recommendations must meet diocesan criteria. Needed adjustments will be made in dialogue with the Vicariate Council and affected parishes.
" The Diocesan Commission will communicate with the Vicariates regarding exactly what will be recommended to Bishop Kmiec.
" As they are completed, recommendations for restructuring will be presented to Bishop Kmiec for his approval. Parishes will be informed prior to media announcement.
" The implementation schedule will be determined as the process unfolds.

CATHOLIC RELIEF SERVICES
Next weekend, January 28th & 29th, is the annual collection for the American Bishops' Overseas Appeal. This appeal supports the Catholic Church organizations that carry our international solidarity and relief efforts. Programs include relief and resettlement services to victims of persecution, war, and natural disasters as well as development projects to improve the living conditions of the poor. Less than two cents of every dollar collected is used for fund raising and administration expenses. Please be generous for this worthwhile organization.

MUSIC MINISTRY - UPCOMING EVENT!!!

SCRAPBOOKING FOR SENIORS
The Scrapbook for Seniors group meets every Monday from 11:00-1:00 p.m., in the Chapel Meeting Room to compile a scrapbook of their most treasured memories and life stories. Parish Outreach will help you organize your photos, mementos, and thoughts. You'll receive a photo album, pen, tape for photographs and sheets to take home. Cost is $10 and you may join at any time. THE PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY
This ministry meets every Wednesday evening from 7-9 pm in the Church Library. Prayer Shawls are knit, blessed and given as gifts to parishioners who are shut-ins, have serious illnesses, or those who have a need to be wrapped in prayers. For details call Linda Maslona at 839-2363. If you can't participate, but wish to help, we would appreciate donations of 3 complete skeins of one color yarn, used to knit a prayer shawl.

ST. VINCENT de PAUL SOCIETY - In the life of Mother Teresa, the Two Commandments - To love God and to love our neighbor - are inseparable. In her life and work she exemplifies the relationship between the two: How, if we do not love God we cannot love our neighbor, and if we do not love our neighbor we cannot love God.

YOUTH NEWS
The Teen Youth Group of CTK is an organization in which all high school teen parishioners are automatically members. Teens are encouraged to participate in any or all events. Members who feel a strong dedication and commitment to serve should consider a position on the CTK Youth Council. This committee helps to schedule events that seek to increase faith, encourage friendship, & promote fun in a welcoming atmosphere. The leadership council works directly with adult coordinators, volunteers, and parish teens to plan programs & invite you to become an active part of teen life at CTK Church.

¢ Diocesan Youth Convention - This annual 3-day event takes place from Feb. 17th- 19th at Adam's Mark Hotel, Buffalo. Approximately 900 teens from all over the Diocese attend this weekend, which includes workshops, special liturgies, dances, a coffee house, and awards. This is a great opportunity to come with your friends to learn more about your Catholic faith, meet new people, and increase your understanding of the role of young people in our Church. Contact Mrs. Peer for information for partial registration for partial events on this weekend.

¢ Souper Bowl of Caring - CTK Youth Group Teens will be all exits of the church on February 4th & 5th - Super Bowl Sunday - to collect for this annual Dollar Drive. All money collected will be sent to Catholic Charities Soup Pantries.

JOURNEY IN FAITH AND GRACE
The Restructuring of our Parishes and Schools
For most Catholics, the parish is the most important part of the church because it is there that they express their faith and, together with others, give proof of their communion with God and with one another. At the same time, each individual parish is also in relationship with other parishes in carrying out the mission of the entire diocese, as well as in communion with the larger, universal church. Through its prayer, public worship, sacramental life, and ministries, the parish gives witness to God's presence. The parish is sacramental and God acts through it.
Catholic schools have been a vital ministry of most parishes throughout our diocesan history. These schools have been characterized by Catholic identity and cultural diversity. They have shown concern for spiritual formation and moral values, for academic excellence and global awareness, and for service to the Church and to the nation.
As the Diocese of Buffalo prepares to restructure its parishes and schools, there is a two-fold purpose:
1. To ensure that parishes will have the membership, leadership and resources to be
vibrant centers of Catholic life.
2. To foster academically excellent and financially sound Catholic schools that will give
witness to Gospel values through their environment, teaching, and activities.

There is an Amherst Town Board Planning Meeting, Monday January 23rd at 3:30pm. It is extremely important for as many concerned residents and neighbors as possible to attend. Please wear red to demonstrate our cause and uniformity. Mr. Bill Vanacek, Director of Airport Operations from the NFTA is scheduled to attend this meeting. This weekend, our parish will observe the 33rd Anniversary of the Roe v. Wade Decision at the 9:30 a.m. Mass. The Rosary for Life will be recited at 9:00 a.m. prior to the start of Mass.

EWTN carries full coverage of the Rally and the March for Life, which begins at Noon on Monday, January 23rd, if you would like to participate but are unable to attend.

ABORTION AND THE PREAMBLE TO THE CONSTITUTION

"We the People of the United States, in order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

The Founding Fathers, as stated above, intended to secure the "Blessings of Liberty" not only for that initial generation of the new nation, but for their posterity. At first, not all living in the United States were fully included in that statement of intent.
But as the history of America unfolded, slavery was ended and black Americans and their posterity were included. Voting rights were eventually granted to women citizens, and in the 1920's American Indians were officially recognized as citizens. Later on, poll taxes and other obstructions to voting rights were removed by Congress and the courts. A few years later the voting age was lowered to age eighteen.
All of these measures, whether Constitutional amendments, laws enacted by Congress, or Supreme Court decisions, were intended to expand the scope of the Preamble stated purpose, "… secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and to our Posterity."
That was the whole direction of our history from 1789 to 1973. In 1973, that direction was suddenly thrown into severe reverse when the Supreme Court arbitrarily declared that many of our posterity were no longer automatically entitled to the Blessing of Liberty and could be deprived of life itself.
To make it crystal clear; what does the word posterity mean? Posterity, in the collective sense, is used in the Preamble as it refers to all future generations, that is, all of the descendants of that founding generation of Americans for all generations.
So it was the intent of the Founders to "secure the Blessing of Liberty" for all of their descendants. Therefore when the 14th Amendment, which was adopted in the 1860's, stated "nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property without due process of law" it applies to all posterity without exception.
By definition, posterity refers to the unborn, whether or not Congress or the States define the unborn as "persons," and therefore the Supreme Court., in its 1973 decision legalizing the killing of many of our posterity, has abolished the very reason for establishing the Constitution namely, "…securing the Blessing of Liberty to ourselves and to our Posterity." In effect the Constitution has been overthrown for all future generations since we are now "free" to kill our posterity with impunity.

CATHOLIC RELIEF SERVICES - The second collection today is the for American Bishops' Overseas Appeal, which has programs which include relief and resettlement services to victims of persecution, war, and natural disasters as well as development projects to improve the living conditions of the poor. Less than two cents of every dollar collected is used for fund raising and administration expenses. Please be generous for this worthwhile organization.

ATTENTION SNOWBIRDS! - Before you head to your warm destination for the winter, please make a pledge now to Appeal 2006 for Catholic Charities. Not only will it relieve your mind, it will help the parish reach its goal by closing-Sunday. Appeal 2006 is April 2nd-April 9th. CTK SENIOR CITIZENS GROUP will meet on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month. CANDLEMAS DAY - Thursday, February 2nd is Candlemas Day, the Presentation of the Lord. Candles will be blessed before the 6:55 a.m. Mass, and will be available for $2 after the 6:55 and 8:00 a.m. Masses, or in the Rectory, after the Masses.

BLESSING OF THROATS - Friday, February 3rd is the Feast of St. Blaise, which is celebrated with the blessing of throats. Throats will only be blessed after the 6:55 & 8:45 a.m. masses.

FIRST FRIDAY - Friday of this week is the first Friday for the month of February. Masses will be at 6:55 and 8:45 a.m. After the 8:45 a.m. Mass the Rosary & Altar Society will recite the Rosary and then go to the Wehrle Restaurant for a Dutch-treat breakfast. For reservations please call Virginia Harder at 839-0230 before noon on Thursday, February 2nd.

DONUT SALE! After all Masses Next SUNDAY, the CTK 8th Grade will be selling Crispy Creme Donuts for $6 per dozen - as a fund-raiser to help support their Grade Class Trip.

THE NEXT BIBLE BUDDIES for and your pre-school children ages 2-4 is on Wednesday, Feb. 8th or Thursday, Feb. 9th, from 10-10:30 a.m. in the Chapel Meeting Room (please enter through the single door, between the church and the school). We will share a story with your child help them to learn more about God and the Bible, and they will make something special to bring home. Catholic schools are proud of the education network that emphasizes intellectual, spiritual, moral, physical, and social values in their students.

Sunday, January 29th - Today we begin our celebration of Catholic Schools Week, the national celebration of the countless ways that Catholic Education means Character, Compassion, and Values. Please join us this week for our events! The school students will participate in the 9:30 a.m. Mass. An Open House will be held in the school immediately following the Mass. Refreshments will be served. All are invited to attend.

The Restructuring of our Parishes and Schools (continued from last week)
In the many years since parishes and schools were established, the world around them has changed considerably. Effective ministry requires that the church follow the advice of Pope John XXII and read the "signs of the times." The parish must seek to become ever more fully a people of God, sharing the mission of Christ and developing the structures necessary for supporting its community life and carrying out its mission. This will entail constant adaptation and renewal in the face of an ever-changing environment. Schools, too, will need to be structured in new ways in order for Catholic education to be offered under very different circumstances than when the schools were first founded.

ANOTHER REASON FOR WANTING TO SPEND
1 HOUR WITH JESUS IN THE BLESSED SACRAMENT
Speak to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, just as you would speak to your best friend. Tell Him about all of your concerns, needs, your family, loved ones, friends and neighbors. Express sorrow for our faults (sins), and those you have hurt. Ask for the grace to forgive all who have hurt you. Pray for guidance and healing. Spend some quiet time listening to Him with your heart and mind.

ROSARY CHAIN - There are a group of parishioners who pray a daily rosary for special intentions requested through the Parish Rosary Chain. If you have an intention for the Rosary Chain, or if you would like to become part of the Rosary Chain Ministry, call Irene Wingerter at 632-0646. The Rosary Chain is ideal for those who wish to keep their intention private.

SCRAPBOOKING FOR SENIORS - The Scrapbook for Seniors group meets every Monday from 11:00-1:00 p.m., in the Chapel Meeting Room to compile a scrapbook of their most treasured memories and life stories. Parish Outreach will help you organize your photos, mementos, and thoughts. You'll receive a photo album, pen, tape for photographs and sheets to take home. Cost is $10 & you may join at any time. THE PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY - This ministry meets every Wednesday evening from 7-9 pm in the Church Library. Prayer Shawls are knit, blessed and given as gifts to parishioners who are shut-ins, have serious illnesses, or those who have a need to be wrapped in prayers. For details call Linda Maslona at 839-2363. If you can't participate, but wish to help, we would appreciate donations of 3 complete skeins of one color yarn, used to knit a prayer shawl.

MUSIC MINISTRY - UPCOMING EVENT!!! - The Youth Hand Bell and Choir Festival will be performed on Sunday, February 26th at 4:00 p.m. in Blessed Trinity Church (317 Leroy Ave, Buffalo). YOUTH NEWS
The Teen Youth Group of CTK is an organization in which all high school teen parishioners are automatically members. Teens are encouraged to participate in any or all events. Members who feel a strong dedication and commitment to serve should consider a position on the CTK Youth Council. This committee helps to schedule events that seek to increase faith, encourage friendship, & promote fun in a welcoming atmosphere. The leadership council works directly with adult coordinators, volunteers, and parish teens to plan programs & invite you to become an active part of teen life at CTK Church.

¢ Diocesan Youth Convention - This annual 3-day event takes place from Feb. 17th- 19th at Adam's Mark Hotel, Buffalo. Approximately 900 teens from all over the Diocese attend this weekend, which includes workshops, special liturgies, dances, a coffee house, and awards. This is a great opportunity to come with your friends to learn more about your Catholic faith, meet new people, and increase your understanding of the role of young people in our Church. Contact Mrs. Peer for information for partial registration for partial events on this weekend.
¢ Souper Bowl of Caring - CTK Youth Group Teens will be all exits of the church on February 4th & 5th - Super Bowl Sunday - to collect for this annual Dollar Drive. All money collected will be sent to Catholic Charities Soup Pantries.
