"Beware that your hearts do not become drowsy from carousing and drunkenness and the
anxieties of daily life. Be vigilant at all times." - Luke 21
Question of the Week: What one thing can you do this week to prepare for the coming of
the Lord?
Faith Response: Popular wisdom says: "Today is the first day of the rest of your
life." But our faith teaches us to live as if today could also be the last day. Live
today like the last day. Leave no kindness undone, no tender word unsaid, no forgiveness
un-given.

Saint Augustine once said: "Find out how much God has given you and from it, take
what you need. The remainder which you do not require is needed by others. The
superfluities of the rich are the necessities of the poor. Those who retain what is
superfluous posses the goods of others."

"Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight God's paths. Every valley shall be
filled and every mountain and hill shall be made low."
Question of the Week: How might the "hills and valleys" of your life need
adjusting to prepare the way of the Lord?
Faith Response: Listen to the Scriptures as if God is speaking personally to you. Look
for God in the kindness of others. Serve God in the needs of those around you and those
far off.

"Shout for joy, O daughter Zion! Sing joyfully, O Israel!"
Question of the Week: What's the best news you've heard so far today, and how can you
share it?
Faith Response: No surprises here: let's rejoice. Let's find joy in our present
circumstances and be the source of joy for others both near and far away. Jesus is our
good news. We can be good news for others if we follow his lead.
EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS AND ALTAR SERVERS

DO WE HAVE TO ATTEND MASS TWICE?
In response to the question "Does one have to go to Mass twice on the 4th Sunday of
Advent and Christmas or would attendance at the Vigil Mass of Christmas be sufficient for
both obligations'?
Faithful Catholics are bound to participate in Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of
Obligation. This year, the 4th Sunday of Advent is also the morning of Christmas Eve,
therefore there are two obligations to attend Mass: once for the Sunday and once for
Christmas. So the faithful Catholic must attend Mass twice.

On Tuesday, January 16th, at Christ the King, there will be a Mass of Prayer for Healing
followed by the laying on of hands for healing of spirit, mind, and body, and for the
Gifts of the Holy Spirit according to the Divine Will of God. The evening begins at 6:30
pm with confessions, Rosary recited at 7:00 pm, followed by Mass at 7:30 pm with Rev.
Msgr. Michael Yunk. Tony Cubello will lead the prayers for healing. The laying on of hands

MERRY CHRISTMAS
Dear Parishioners,
Christmas Day is almost here! It is a time of preparations and celebrations and much
rushing around. Hopefully, you will be able to take some time on Christmas Day to sit back
and enjoy the wonder of Christmas and the birth of Christ. The priests who serve you at
Christ the King, pray that you have a Christmas season filled with love and peace.
Christ came to spread peace and love among men and women of good will. May His love and
peace fill your hearts this Christmas. These are the best gifts of all. We thank you for
all the kindness you have shown to us at this time with your cards, cookies and gifts.
These remembrances tell us of your love for us and we in turn will remember you and your
families as we offer holy Mass on Christmas Day. May the Christ Child continue to bless
our Parish.
Have a blessed Christmas, and a Holy and Happy New Year.
Sincerely,
Msgr. James Lichtenthal
Fr. Joe Sicari
THIS CHRISTMAS
This Christmas, go to Church.
Welcome a stranger.

Apologize if you are wrong.
Examine your demands on others.
Forego a grudge. Try to understand
Think first of someone else.
Be kind, be gentle, be gracious.
Laugh a little - then a lot more.
Gladden the heart of a child.
Listen. Appreciate. Encourage.

ST. VINCENT de PAUL SOCIETY
¢ The St. Vincent de Paul Society wishes to sincerely thank all parishioners of CTK for
your generosity during the Christmas Toy and Food distribution program. Well over 1,000
toys were distributed to twenty-two inner city parishes, who in turn gave them to needy
families. Along with the toys, nearly a ton of food was also given to people less
fortunate than ourselves.
¢ In addition to our parishioners, we wish to recognize and thank everyone who helped
make this year's program such a success: the students at CTK School, Trooper Toys for
Tots, students from Nardin Academy, and students from Sacred Heart Academy. Without their
help and cooperation, this program would not be possible. This year's program was the best
ever!
¢ Your response was overwhelming to the request to support the 5 needy families that we
sponsored this Christmas. Your love and care brings pure delight to those less fortunate.
Thank You and May God Bless You during this Holy Season!
CHRISTMAS CARDS - After you have enjoyed your Christmas cards, it's hard to just throw
them away. If you wish, you can mail them (just the front of the card please - no larger
than 5"x7") to St. Jude's Ranch for Children, 100 St. Jude St., Boulder City, NV
89005. Please send just the front of the card

Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be
fulfilled."
Question of the Week: What do you think God wants from you for Christmas?
Faith Response: Want peace? Forgive those who have trespassed against you this year and
in times past. Lay down attitudes of division, suspicion, and prejudice. Practice the way
of the open heart toward those who come to you. Live in joyful hope.
RECTORY OFFICE HOURS
The Rectory will be closed on Monday, December 25th and Tuesday, December 26th. It will
reopen on Wednesday at 8:30 pm.
DO WE HAVE TO ATTEND MASS TWICE?
Question: "Does one have to go to Mass twice on the 4th Sunday of Advent and
Christmas or would attendance at the Vigil Mass of Christmas be sufficient for both
obligations?"
Answer: Faithful Catholics are bound to participate in Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of
Obligation. This year, the 4th Sunday of Advent is also the morning of Christmas Eve,
therefore there are two obligations to attend Mass: once for the Sunday and once for
Christmas. So the faithful Catholic must attend Mass twice.
CTK CALENDARS FOR 2007
Church calendars for 2007 are now available. Please take one home and refer to it for the
Holy Days and phone numbers. Our thanks to Dietrich Funeral Home for providing our parish
with the calendars.

returned to the Rectory mailbox by Friday, December 29th, or placed in the collection

considered for a 2007 contribution.
IN THIS SEASON OF COLDS AND FLU, SNEEZING AND COUGHING

church and spreading your germs. If you have a cold, please do not receive the Precious
Blood at Mass or extend the Sign of Peace until you are well. REMEMBER: If you have
difficulty getting around in good weather, please stay home when it is icy or snowy. God

"2007"
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OUR FAMILIES!!!
From your Parish Priests and Staff
"THANK YOU" TO ALL WHO HAVE HELPED OUR PARISH WITH THEIR TIME AND TALENTS
Every year we try to remember all those who have added to our delight of the Advent and
Christmas seasons, those who have helped us during the year. We would like to extend our
thanks to:
To the priests and the religious who have served us throughout the entire year,
especially Fr. Daniel O'Leary.
To Adria Ryan, our Director of Music Ministry, your music has made our Masses a more
joyful celebration. Also, the members of the Adult and Youth Choirs, and to all the joyful
singers and instrumentalist who have prepared, rehearsed and performed special music
throughout this season. Your gift of music has greatly enriched our weekly Masses and this
holiday season.
To the Decorating Committee: Those men and women who gave of their time to decorate the
outside and inside of the Church. The Churches were very festive and have added to our
enjoyment of the Christmas season. We thank you for your commitment every year - and
encourage others to help nest year!
To our Arts and Environment Committee for the wonderful job they did with arranging the
Christmas Flowers on the Church Altars. It was truly a labor of love.
To Dan Staszak, our Maintenance Supervisor, a very special thanks! Dan's pride in his
work is obvious. During the summer, the church lawns, gardens and bushes are meticulously
kept. In the winter, Dan works endlessly to keep the church and school entrances clear of
snow. His hard work is not unappreciated! Thanks also to Ugo Del Sorbo who works part-time
maintenance with Dan to keep the church clean.
To Pat Wiedenbeck, who puts seasonal wreaths on the Rectory door. Each wreath is a work
of art and enjoyed by everyone who enters the office.
To all others, whose quiet reliability helps our parish to function smoothly, not only
during the Christmas holidays, but year-round: The Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, Altar
Servers, Ushers, Greeters, Counters, Adult Altar Servers, the Outreach Committee, Parish
Council Members and Committee Members, CTK Principal and Teachers, Religious Education
Director and Volunteer Teachers, and the Youth Ministers. Without their dedication to
these ministries, the everyday operations at the parish would be much more difficult.
Thank you,
May God keep you in his care, and
May the joy of the Christmas season remain with you always,
Msgr. Lichtenthal and Father Joe

would appreciate any extra calendars you may receive over the next few weeks. Please drop
them off at the Rectory.
