JOURNEY IN FAITH AND GRACE
What are the Diocesan Core Values?
Eucharistic Community / Prayer & Worship: Through prayer and worship, especially
celebration of the Eucharistic, Catholics are nurtured and transformed. The Eucharist is
the source and summit of Church life; the Eucharistic assembly is the visible expression
of the Church.
Evangelization and Faith Formation: It is only by being firmly grounded in the faith that
Catholics can live the Gospel and proclaim it to others. The diocese will engage in a
spiritual renewal to stimulate in all Catholics such an enthusiasm for the faith that, in
living their faith in Jesus, they will freely share it with others.
Respect for Every Human Person: The dignity of human life is linked to its origin and
destiny in God and God's love. The Church will promote respect for the life and dignity of
every human being, from conception to natural death.
Concern for Families - the Domestic Church: The family unit, whether traditional or
non-traditional, shapes the society in which we live. The diocese will continue to promote
the sanctity of marriage and family life, to minister to the needs of every generation,
and to seek out new ways to involve youth in the life of the Church.
Justice, Peace, and Preferential Option for those who are Poor: The Church's contribution
to culture is to form human hearts for peace and justice. Despite social or economic
disparity, we are all members of one human family with gifts to give and to receive from
one another. The diocese is committed to a just social order that will give hope to those
involved in oppressive situations. Every diocesan policy will be viewed on the basis of
its impact on the poorest and most vulnerable members of the society.

JOURNEY IN FAITH AND GRACE
What are the Diocesan Core Values? (
continued from December 4th)
" Common Good and Solidarity - Personal interests needs to be aligned with those of
the larger church community; local churches and schools need to see their future in light
of what will be best for the entire diocese. We all journey together in solidarity and
hope.
" Cultivating Unity in Diversity / Respect for Culture - All persons have a right to
cultural identity, a duty to develop themselves culturally, and a responsibility to help
everyone participate equally in cultural life. The Church, which is not tied to any
particular culture, will work to promote a sense of unity and harmony within our
culturally diverse community.
" Stewardship, Respect for Resources - All that we have is a gift from God. As good
stewards, we will show respect for the created world and the resources available to us. We
will use our time, talent, and treasure wisely, responsibly, and for the benefit of all.
" Loving Compassion, Forgiveness and Reconciliation - The Gospel message of Jesus
emphasizes the compassion and forgiveness of a loving God. In this time of transition,
which may be troubling for some, the Church will strive to build human relationships
through compassion, forgiveness, and reconciliation.
" Honesty, Integrity and Accountability - All aspects of the Church, including its
administration, its stewardship of Church assets both human and financial, and its
communication with the faithful as well as with the general community, shall be conducted
with honesty, integrity, and a spirit of accountability.

JOURNEY IN FAITH AND GRACE
"The Church is likened to an Inn of Hospitality"
The Church has been likened to an Inn and God as the one who calls or invites us, but does
not impose. In a hospitable welcoming parish we find three people: the host, the guest and
God. Their positions are not predetermined but fluid. Hospitality starts with the host
becoming a guest, the grateful recipient of God's hospitality. If the host does not know
what it means to be a guest, then he or she is not capable of being a host. And Jesus? He
disguises himself as a guest. He said it very clearly in Matthew 25: "I was hungry
thirsty
a stranger
Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the
least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me."
It goes even farther. Not only does God hide himself in the stranger; he is a stranger
himself. "The Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head" (Matthew 8:20). His
disciples have to learn that they are strangers too. So he sends them as guests in the
world (Luke 10:1-9). Therefore hospitality implies a twofold movement: to open our doors
for guests and to go ourselves through those open doors to the outside world, to the
fringes of society. (Excerpt from Jan Hendriks, The Center Letter, July 2005)
On this Christmas Day, let each of us be hospitable guests, welcoming strangers, and
treating everyone we meet as though they were Jesus.
OUTREACH OPPORTUNITIES IN OUR PARISH

" This is the time of year when many of us end up with various calendars for the New
Year, that we will never use or need. Did you know that many of the patrons of the St.
Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen never own a calendar? If you have any extra calendars, please
drop them off at the Rectory - they will be appreciated.
" CTK School collects Box Tops for Education, which can be found, on many food

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!
Dear Parishioners,
Christmas Day has arrived! It is a time for preparations and celebrations and much rushing
around. Hopefully, you will be able to take some time on today to sit back and enjoy the
wonder of Christmas and the birth of Christ. The priests who serve you at Christ the King,
pray that you have a Christmas season filled with love and peace.
Christ came to spread peace and love among men and women of good will. May His love and
peace fill your hearts this Christmas. These are the best gifts of all. We thank you for
all the kindness you have shown to us at this time with your cards, cookies and gifts.
These remembrances tell us of your love for us and we in turn will remember you and your
families as we offer holy Mass on Christmas Day. May the Christ Child continue to bless
our Parish.
Have a blessed Christmas Season and a Happy and Holy New Year.
Sincerely,

"How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of those who bring glad tidings,
announcing peace, bearing good news, announcing salvation" - Isaiah 52
Question of the Week: What do you want for Christmas, more than anything?
Faith Response: Commit yourself once more to the cause of justice and peace. Cultivate
these blessed conditions within your own heart, then practice sharing them with your
family, neighbors, co-workers, and strangers.
SPEND SOME QUIET TIME WITH THE LORD
Each year in this brief season we do come close to a bit of innocence, as we find
ourselves seeking ways to make this world a better place. Little wonder then that even the
most dour among us is seen to have a twinkle of joy in the eye. In some small way we find
our expectations, once hung by the chimney with care, bulging with life.
Spend a few minutes in quiet prayer. Ask God to show you one (or more) ways that you may
be called to respond to this week's scripture:
o In you relationship with God
o With family and friends
o At work, school or church
o In the broader community
