JOURNEY IN FAITH AND GRACE
The following is a list of criteria that the Diocese will be looking for in parishes:
Prayer and Worship, Spirit of Community Lay Leadership and involvement, Faith Formation,
Pastoral Ministry, Outreach, Collaborative Administration, Financial Stability, and
Buildings and Property. For the next few weeks, we will highlight these criteria:
¢ Faith Formation: The parish, individually or collaboratively, should provide religious
education for all age levels and also offer the opportunity for participation in the RCIA.
There should be active sacramental preparation programs and a viable youth ministry
program. Support should also be given to the parochial or regional Catholic elementary
school.
¢ Pastoral Ministry: The staff should meet regularly to pray together, share their
experiences, and plan for parish ministry. Staff and members of the parish should be
willing to take the time to heal, console, listen to and help people in need.
¢ Outreach: The parish does not work simply to sustain itself. It should be a visible
expression of Christian community service incorporating charitable works, evangelization,
and social justice activity - helping to gain human dignity for all within the community.
The parish should also be supportive of the missionary activities of the Church both near
home and in distant lands.
ARE YOU REGISTERED AT CTK?
Just because you attend weekly mass at CTK, please don't assume that you are automatically
registered in the parish. If you have children who have graduated from school, are working
at a full-time job or are no longer living at home, they should register as an adult.
Also, if you will be moving out of the parish or if you no longer consider yourself a
parishioner, please notify us, so that we can remove you from our census. Please call the
parish Rectory at 839-1430.
"The Ancient One took his throne. His clothing was snow bright, and the hair on
his head as white as wool; his throne was flames of fire, with wheels of burning
fire." - from Daniel 7
Question of the Week: What are the sources, both holy and ordinary, of light in your
life?
Faith Response: Seek clarity. Engage in regular habits of examining your conscience.
Meditate on Scripture. Listen to church teaching thoughtfully. Pray unceasingly.
RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults)
The RCIA process "did a great job of preparing me to join the Church. I had so much
to learn since I had not been raised in the Catholic Church. I had a lot of catching up to
do! The instructors of the RCIA classes are so on fire for their faith - it is contagious
and wonderful." PG 1999-2000 Are you or someone you know in one of the following
categories? (1) Never baptized; (2) Baptized Catholic but never received First Eucharist
and/or Confirmation; (3) Baptized in another Christian faith but now would like to
investigative the Catholic faith; (4) Interested in refreshing and/or updating your
information about the Catholic faith. If you or someone you know is in one of these
categories, the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults may be for you. RCIA is a journey
taken by adults who are interested in the faith and along with the members of the parish
community who help to instruct, guide and share their faith deepen their spiritual
relationship with God. We invite you to join us on Thursday evenings, beginning September
14, from 7:15 to 9 pm in the Msgr. McMahon Parish Library. For more information call the
rectory at 839-1430 or visit the RCIA website at www.ctksnyder.com and click organizations
then RCIA.

Collaborative Administration - Pastoral leadership should encourage the fullest possible
collaboration of clergy, religious, laity, men and women, in their common mission.
Financial Stability - The parish should be able to support its ministry and contribute to
the services and programs of the diocese. The parish should not be overly dependent on
special fundraising activities such as lawn fetes or games of chance. Parishioners should
be education in the theology and practice of stewardship.
Buildings and Property - An atmosphere of beauty and cleanliness should make the church
interior as a sacred space. Sacred and precious items should be given appropriate care and
security. Parish buildings and grounds should be well maintained and adequate for the
needs of the parish.

YOUR SPIRITUALLY ADOPTED BABY - Six-Month Developing Baby - Your spiritually adopted
baby is growing quite beautifully now. His weight is approaching 2 pounds. Babies born
prematurely at this time have a very good chance of surviving. The medical advances in
caring for extremely small newborn infants are extraordinary indeed. Justice Sandra Day
O'Connor has remarked that the Roe v. Wade decision is on a collision course with itself.
Each passing year, we witness medical advances that allow our medical professionals to
save younger and younger premature infants.

RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults)
"Originally I began the (RCIA) process for my husband and children, but in the end I
am glad I did it for myself. Not only do I now have an understanding of the Catholic
faith, I met great people during the process." PT 2002-2003 The Rite of Christian
Initiation of Adults - RCIA - is a rite of acceptance into the Catholic Faith Community.
Adults journey with team members to hear their stories and learn more about the Catholic
faith. The process helps to prepare candidates for the Sacraments of Initiation - Baptism,
Confirmation and First Eucharist. If you or someone you know wish to enter, investigate or
update your knowledge of the Catholic faith, the RCIA process may be for you. We invite
you to join us on Thursday evenings, beginning September 14, from 7:15 to 9 pm in the
Msgr. McMahon Parish Library. For more information call the rectory at 839-1430 or visit
the RCIA website at www.ctksnyder.com and click organizations then RCIA.
SUITCASES FOR KIDS
Cleaning your attic? Buying new school supplies? Don't toss it - donate it. In conjunction
with the WNY Realtors, the Social Justice Committee is collecting new or gently used
suitcases, backpacks or duffel bags for foster children, some who have nothing to carry
their belongings from home to home. You may also include some school supply items as well.
These items can be dropped off in the Chapel Meeting Room after Masses on August 26th and
27th. Check the bulletin board in the upper vestibule for more information.
"All bitterness, fury, anger, shouting, and reviling must be removed from you, along
with all malice." -from Ephesians
Question of the Week: Which moral failing are you finally prepared to surrender?
Faith Response: Resist faith fatigue. Get proper rest for both the body and the spirit.
Make time for retreat, reflection, recollection, and prayer. Allow for some questions that
won't be answered now.

Church is deeply involved in humanitarian work among the suffering people of Sri Lanka,
where the majority of people are Buddhists and Hindus. This way of witnessing brings
Christ's love and compassion to the suffering people. There will be a 2nd collection at
the masses. Please be as generous as your means would allow.

When we lose a loved one by death, we are wounded. Just as a wound does, we need to heal
from within, to express our thoughts and feelings, even when they seem crazy. A support

who understand and care. A Bereavement Support Group, sponsored by the CTK Bereavement
Committee, has been organized for all persons grieving the death of a loved one. The
program will consist of six sessions beginning Tuesday, September 12th and every other
Tuesday through November 28th from 7:00 pm until approximately 9:00 p.m. The program will

ANOTHER REASON FOR WANTING TO SPEND
ONE HOUR WITH JESUS IN THE BLESSED SACRAMENT:
"Make Me a list, if you wish, of all your needs and come read it in My presence. Tell

Then ask Me to help you as you struggle to be free of

RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults)
"I felt strange at first because I had been away from the church for awhile. But as
the weeks went by I felt so welcome and sure of myself. I also loved coming to class
because it was very calming and peaceful for me." KM 2004-2005 We invite all adults
who are interested in investigating the Catholic faith to join the RCIA team for the first
Inquiry session on Thursday, September 14, at 7:15 pm in the Msgr. McMahon Parish Library.
The RCIA process is one where adults journey with team members to hear their stories and
learn together as we move to a closer relationship with Jesus. We welcome anyone who has
not yet been baptized, been baptized either in the Catholic faith or a Christian faith
that uses the Trinitarian form but never received First Eucharist and/or Confirmation, or
who would just like to update their knowledge of the Catholic faith. For more information

"The days are evil. Therefore, do not continue in ignorance, but try to understand
what is the will of the Lord." - Ephesians 5

more sensibly. Consider what use of your time may be simply "empty calories."

group is a safe haven where we can talk, cry, share our anger, guilt and fears with those
who understand and care.
The program will
be held in the Church Library. For more information, please call Linda Maslona at
