RECHARGE YOUR SPIRITUAL BATTERY
We are very excited to announce Mission III at Christ the King. Mission III will be held on the parish grounds and take place the evenings of Saturday, October 4th through Saturday, October 11th.
Mission is a time for education, personal reflection, prayer, laughter and enjoyment. It consists of an 8-night spiritual journey from 7:00 p.m -10:00 p.m. Each night is different & includes speakers, liturgy & personal reflection. Since each night builds on the others, participation requires your presence on all nights.
With all the pressures of daily activities, Mission offers a chance to take a break for yourself and focus on your Faith. While a commitment of time is required, people having completed Mission regularly comment how the week went by quickly and that the experience was very rewarding.

FAVORS GRANTED THROUGH PERPETUAL EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
The Adorers of the Perpetual Adoration wish to thank Jesus for the following favors:
1) Thank you for the friends you have given me.
2) Thank you for answering my prayers.

ANOTHER REASON FOR WANTING TO SPEND 1 HOUR
WITH JESUS IN THE BLESSED SACRAMENT:
"Laura Nicholson, a member of St. John Neumann Parish in New Orleans says that
Eucharistic Adoration has become a very important part of her life. Some days she just stops by the chapel to just say hello to the Lord. But other days aren't as simple. She may be there
because she needs to rest and share her troubles. And still other times, she is just grateful
that God cared enough to be present in this way. 'Sometimes it's joyous and other times it is
just painfully heartbreaking, so sometimes you don't think you can go another day,' she says.
'And that's when you sit before the Lord, and you let Him have that, to. To be able to come
here at whatever time you wish and know that the lord is here waiting is a consolation.'" - Extension, June 2000

IMMACULATE HEART SISTERS OF AFRICA

On the weekend of August 23rd & 24th, there will be a special collection for the Immaculate Heart Sisters of Africa. This order was founded in 1955 as a local community near Lake Victoria, Tanzania. At present they have 135 professed sisters and 35 young women in their formation houses. Since last September, Sister Annunciata Chacha, a nun from this order, has been living in our convent. Many of you have met Sister Chacha, or have seen her attending mass in our church. She is currently attending Daemen College and hopes to earn her Bachelor's Degree in Social Work at the end of this school year (June, 2004).

Sister Chacha hopes that her degree in Social Work will enable her to better help and teach the people she works with. In addition to assisting in their faith conversion, Catechesis, and ministry in the Church, she will be involved in many pastoral activities, such as Education in all levels (Kindergarten, Primary Schools & Secondary Levels), nursing care, social work, women development, refugees, orphans, street children, office work, etc.

Before arriving in Buffalo, Sister Chacha worked with poor women and children in the village of Geita. The "convent" Sister Chacha lived in, was shared by 6 nuns with whom she worked to help more than 20 orphans - many whose parents had died due to AIDS. There are also many single mothers in the village, who became pregnant before an official marriage. These girls are often orphans, or those whose parents neglect them or force them to marry while very young, or become pregnant while very young and are kicked out of their homes.

She has also worked with refugees from Rwanda and Burundi who have escaped from their countries, which are in the midst of internal fighting and wars. The sisters teach sewing, cooking, food gardening, reading and writing. They also run parenting courses and help teach how to set up small businesses, so that they their fellow Tanzanians will be able to support themselves in the future.

The order of the Immaculate Heart Sisters of Africa has a lot of needs, and is asking for our financial help. Any money collected will go towards the support and education of the sisters, and to help support their ministries, such as: education for orphan children, and to construct a center where the single mothers and children can feel at home, get an education, a receive moral formation to help them live a better future.

Apart from educating the sisters, the order also educate the poor young women and young men whose parents can't afford to pay their school fees and other school needs for them. The Sisters share what little they have with them.

Costs to consider:
For educating a sister: School fees $463
School material $288
Travel $185
Household Exp. $155
For educating a child: School fees $ 50
Uniform -
skirt or pants/shirt/shoes $ 20
Books $ 50

Please remember us the weekend of August 23 & 24th when the collection will be taken
For more information,
Sr. Chacha is living in our Convent and you can reach her by calling 839-0052.
Thank you for your consideration.

CHRIST THE KING PARISH OUTREACH

"There are many different gifts, but it is always the same spirit;
there are different ways of serving, but always the same Lord (1 Corinthians 12:4-5)

Parish Outreach encompasses all the committees within the parish in order to learn more about the needs of our parishioners and to develop ways in which to assist those in need. Any needs or concerns that are brought to the attention of the Outreach Director are personally assessed and addressed, at the same time, respecting their confidentiality. After complete assessment is made, the concerns would be filtered out to the organization that would best assist the individuals, whether it is physical, financial, emotional or spiritual support. In doing so, we can truly bring our parish together as a concerned community, loving and caring for our fellow neighbors.

One of our current ministries is to the Sick, which includes visiting and bringing Holy Communion to our parishioners who are homebound or in hospitals or nursing homes, while providing pastoral or spiritual support to the sick and their families. Many elderly people who are homebound feel disconnected from their parish and even from God. By our Eucharistic visits, it's allowed them to feel closer to God, while reconnecting with their parish community and realizing that they have not been forgotten.

We ask that you would be willing to commit up to 2 hours a week in serving our elderly and sick of the parish. If you are interested in serving as a Eucharistic visitor, call Linda Maslona at 839-2363.

Also, if you are in a position where you are unable to come to Church - whether it is long or short term, and would like to receive Holy Eucharist, please call Linda Maslona and arrangements will be made.

Leon Biernat: 847-5535.

DO YOU HAVE PESKY SQUIRRELS?
There were three country churches in a small town: the Presbyterian Church, the Methodist Church and the Catholic Church. Each church was overrun with pesky squirrels.
One day, the Presbyterian Church called a meeting of the Session to decide what to do about the squirrels. After much prayer and consideration, they determined that the squirrels were predestined to be there and they shouldn't interfere with God's will.
The Methodist Church formed a committee to decide the action to take. They decided they were not in a position to harm any of God's creations. So, they humanely trapped the squirrels & set them free a few miles outside of town. 3 days later, the squirrels were back.
It was only the Catholic Church, which was able to come up with the best and most effective solution. They baptized the squirrels and registered them as members of the church. Now they only see them on Christmas and Easter.

BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GROUP
When we lose a loved one by death, we are wounded. Just as a wound does, we need to heal from within, to express our thoughts and feelings, even when they seem crazy. A support group is a safe haven where we can talk, cry, share our anger, guilt and fears with those who understand and care. A Bereavement Support Group, sponsored by CTK Bereavement Committee, has been organized for all persons grieving the death of a loved one. The program will consist of six sessions beginning Wednesday, September 10th and every other Wednesday through November 19th. The program will be held in the Church Library. Leon Biernat: 847-5535.

FAVORS GRANTED THROUGH PERPETUAL EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
The Adorers of the Perpetual Adoration wish to thank Jesus for the following favors:
1) Thank you for our beautiful healthy baby;
2) Thank you for the beautiful retreat!

ANOTHER REASON FOR WANTING TO SPEND 1 HOUR
WITH JESUS IN THE BLESSED SACRAMENT:
"Look at a woven basket's design. From the simplest basket to the most complex, the ribs must be centered and held in balance. They are the fixed bearings that guide the whole rhythm of the weaving. If the ribs are out of balance, the whole basket is lopsided, uneven, off-center. Just like a woven basket, our life must have a fixed bearing - Christ." - Alaska Radio Mission Newsletter, April 2003

YOUTH NEWS

" Teen Talk - Join us for this informal discussion group for High School Teens where we will discuss important issues and topics. In our first session we will be exploring our relationship with Jesus Christ and we will be discussing: (1) What information does the New Testament tell us about Christ? and (2) How does what we know about Christ change people's live? Each night will include time to spend with friends and refreshments. All sessions will be held at 33 Snyderwoods Ct., from 7:30-9:00 p.m. on the following nights: Tuesday, August 26th, and Thursday, August 28th. RECHARGE YOUR SPIRITUAL BATTERY!
It's hard to imagine that just one short year ago we had Mission I. There are now 110 people that have made Mission at Christ the King. We are very excited to announce that Mission III will take place the evenings of October 4th-11th on the parish grounds.
Mission is a time for education, personal reflection, prayer, laughter and enjoyment. It is a wonderful spiritual event that offers you the opportunity to experience Jesus in a deeper sense in the company of follow parishioners. It consists of an eight-night spiritual journey. Each night is different and includes speakers, liturgy and personal reflection.
With all the pressures of daily activities Mission offers a chance to take a break for yourself and focus on your Faith. While a commitment of time is required, people having completed Mission regularly comment how the week went by quickly and that the experience was very rewarding.
For more information please call Dennis & Cathy Lennon at 835-7638 or Melissa at the rectory at 839-1430.
