Rosary Chain or if you would like to become part of the Rosary Chain Ministry, please call
Margaret Babich at 839-0335.
CATHOLIC CHARITIES APPEAL 2004
As of Tuesday, March 30th, our parish donated $172,276.42 to Catholic Charities. Today is
the closing day Appeal 2004. If you haven't done so already, please make your gift today.
All we need is a pledge - as much or as little as you can afford - every little bit helps.
Catholic Charities is still short of their goal of $10,500,000 and it is with prayers and
your help that we can make it.
Your support of this year's Appeal is vital. Please consider increasing your donation this
year by pledging a larger amount, and making payments in several installments. A gift of
$100 is less than $2 per week. Try to join the Large Gift donor group by giving a minimum
of $250. This is what helps make our parish go over the top every year. Let us show Fr.
Joe Sicari (Director of Catholic Charities who assists at Christ the King), our support.
If you are employed by a firm that "matches gifts" to charitable institutions,
secure a form from your personnel office and forward the completed form to the Catholic
Charities Appeal Office. Your contribution is used to bring strength and stability to the
community. Please give generously! For more details on Catholic Charities, call 856-4494
or visit our website - www.ccwny.org.

FAVORS GRANTED THROUGH PERPETUAL EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
The Adorers of the Perpetual Adoration wish to thank Jesus for the following favors:
1) Thank you for much needed mental health for my daughter.
2) Thank you for the successful hip replacement for my wife.
ANOTHER REASON FOR WANTING TO SPEND 1 HOUR
WITH JESUS IN THE BLESSED SACRAMENT
"There are some people who, in order not to pray, use as an excuse the fact that life
is so hectic; that it prevents them from praying. This cannot be. Prayer does not demand
that we interrupt our work, but that we continue working as if it were a prayer. It is not
necessary to always be meditating, nor to consciously experience the sensation that we are
talking to God, no matter how nice this would be. What matters is being with Him, living
in Him
in His will. To love with a pure heart, to love everybody, especially to
love the poor, is a twenty-four-hour prayer." - Blessed Teresa of Calcutta
"TRAVELING" STATUES OF JESUS AND MARY - If you and your family would like to
invite the statues of Jesus & Mary into your home for 1 week, please call Martha Johns
at 839-2268 and leave a message. While you have the statues, you are encouraged to say a
daily Rosary. The statue of Mary is Our Lady of Guadeloupe, the patroness of the Americas,
and the patroness of the unborn. These statues have become so popular over the past few
years, that two sets are now available.
DID YOU KNOW???? - Plastic six-pack rings are life-threatening hazards to birds and
marine life. On a 300-mile Texas beach, 15,60-0 six-pack rings were found in 3 hours. Snip
each circle with scissors before you throw them out. Pick up uncut rings your find, take
them home, clip them and discard.
EASTER SYMBOLS WITH SCRIPTURE
Baskets: Mark 6:42-43. Baskets hold many things and are used for many decorative
purposes. We are each like an Easter basket into which God places precious gifts,
which are meant to be taken out and shared with others.
Chicks: John 13:38. A freshly hatched chick is warm and fuzzy, cuddly and cute. It comes
out of a tomb-like egg, reminding us of the resurrection. When full grown it becomes a
hen or rooster. The rooster reminds us of Peter's three-fold denial of Jesus and the
fragility of faith. The chick and Peter remind us of how fragile new life of faith really
is.
Eggs: Deuteronomy 22:6-7. The Easter Egg is both a tomb and a womb. A chick comes out
of the "Womb" of the eggshell. The sunrise yolk in the center of the egg white
reminds
us of the first rays of the sun of the first Easter Sunday morning when Jesus rose from
the tomb.
Rabbit: Luke 12:15. We've all seen rabbits in our yards and elsewhere. At Easter we know
and call the rabbit affectionately a bunny. He can almost seem like Santa Claus! The
rabbit represents an abundance of new life. It also represents the fragility of abundant
life.
Lily: Hosea 14:4-5. The white lily reminds us of the Resurrection. It is a sign of purity.
Each
of you are like a lily because from deep inside comes new life. This awareness was
cultivated through Lent. Now you trumpet (the shape of the lily) new life symbolizing
your purity and newness.
Clothes: Luke 12:22-27. Many people observe an Easter Custom of buying new clothes in
remembrance f the new white garment received in baptism. We feel different putting
on something "New". Clean, fresh clothes also works when we knowingly do it to
honor the specialness of the Easter season. They remind us to "put on Christ".
The
way we live shows we have put on faith in his Resurrection. That makes the best of
clothes to wear.
(Easter) Candle: 1John 1:5. During the Easter vigil we hear the words "Christ our
Light." This
tells us not only is Christ raised but he continues to lead people on their journey of
faith. A candle brightens a room, sets a mood for gatherings of family and friends and
adds atmosphere. When melted, it is done. Our purpose is to burn with the light of
God until the day we die.
Water: Revelation 22:1, 17. Water is the stream of life. We pay attention to it sometimes
in
daily life and many times we take it for granted. Biblical literature tells us water
symbolizes grace - God's own life shared with us his thirsty people. We are to drink
from the waters of God's throne. After all, it's free! During the 50 days of Easter,
place a bowl of water on the dinner table or wherever it is accessible. Before or after
meals each person can dip fingertips or a hand in the water and remember his or her
baptism when God's grace flooded his or her life. Blessing one's self comes naturally.
MASS OF FAREWELL - On Sun, May 9th, at 2:00 pm in St. Louis Church (corner of Main
& Edward St. Buffalo), the Diocese of Buffalo will gather along with the Parish
Community of St. Louis for a Mass of Farewell in honor of Msgr. Robert J. Cunningham and
his appointment as Bishop of Ogdensburg. Immediately following the Mass there will be a
light reception at the Catholic Center. All are welcome to attend. Please join us as we
express our sentiments of profound gratitude & appreciation for all the Msgr.
Cunningham has done for our Diocese as our Vicar General & Chancellor and as a truly
dedicated priest for 35 years. We bid him farewell with our prayers for God's richest
blessings as Bishop of Ogdensburg.
DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY - Next Sunday, April 18th, is Divine Mercy Sunday. This is an
annual celebration of God's Mercy. It should be noted that the Sacrament of Reconciliation
does not need to be celebrated on Divine Mercy Sunday. Many of the committed adorers for
the Perpetual Adoration Chapel say the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy for the sick and the
dying during their Adoration hour. Consequently, we have received from His Holiness, the
Pope, an Apostolic Blessing Citation , which is displayed in the Adoration Chapel.
YOUR SPIRITUALLY ADOPTED BABY - SIX MONTHS DEVELOPING BABY - Your spiritually adopted baby
is growing quite beautifully now. His weight is approaching 2 pounds. Baby's born
prematurely at this time have a very good chance of surviving. The medical advances in
caring for extremely small newborn infants are extraordinary indeed. Justice Sandra Day
O'Connor has remarked that the Roe v. Wade decision is on a collision course with itself.
Each passing year, we witness medical advances that allow our medical professionals to
save younger and younger premature infants.
SPRING HOUSECLEANING FOR YOUR SOUL - Fr. Jack Ledwon will explore ways to let go of
resentments and discover the freedom that comes with forgiveness at Come and See on
Thursday, May 6th at 7:30 p.m. in St. Benedict's church. Table topics include:
bereavement, divorce & separation, annulments, prayer, interfaith marriage, Catholic
singles, answering tough questions, coming back to the church, coping with cancer. No
cost. No reservations required. For information call 5565-2525

MARRIAGE MOMENT
Any couple married longer than 24 hours can probably find grounds for divorce. The
challenge is to find grounds for marriage. Think of one way that you've changed this past
year. Has this enriched or stressed your marriage. Think of one way we can improve this
year.
HAPPY EASTER!!!
Dear Parishioners,
Greetings in the Risen Lord. How fortunate we are to be a resurrection people; people
immersed in the belief that Jesus has conquered sin ad death for us by His death and
glorious Resurrection.
As we gather at this time of year, renewed and refreshed in our faith, we join together as
a parish family to renew our baptismal promises and our fidelity to the Risen Lord and His
Church. May God's blessing remain with all of you as we celebrate together and sing our
"Alleluias" until the Lord shall come again.
On behalf of our priests and sisters who serve here, we wish each of you a Blessed Easter.
Many thanks for your thoughtfulness in cards and gifts this Holy Season.
In Christ our King,
Msgr. James Lichtenthal
Father Joe Sicari
THE LITTLE WHITE BOOKS

EASTER THANK-YOU'S EXTENDED TO:
" The Altar Decorating Committee, for the beautiful display of Easter flowers in both
our churches.
" Dan Staszak, our Maintenance Supervisor, for all the extra work he has done to help
prepare our churches for the Easter celebration. His preparation began 3-weeks ago with
the polishing of the brass and copper candlesticks, and continued through Easter, helping
Msgr. make sure everything was where it should be for the appropriate celebrations. Also
to Eric Voglmayr who works with Dan to help keep the churches looking their best.
" Christina Shrewsbury, Director of Music Ministry, and the Parish Choir, who helped
make the Lenten Season so special, especially for Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday, and Good
Friday's Way of the Cross. It is wonderful to reintroduce the Grand Alleluias at the

become part of the Rosary Chain Ministry, please call Margaret Babich at 839-0335.
CAN YOU HELP SOMEONE GET TO WEEKLY MASS?

drive. Outreach would like to be able to help them, especially during the season of Lent.
If you would be willing to drive a fellow parishioner to church, please call Linda Maslona
at 839-2363. Also, if you are an Eucharistic Minister, or would like to become one to
bring the Eucharist to the homebound and sick, please call Linda.
CATHOLIC CHARITIES APPEAL 2004
As of Tuesday, April 13th, our parish donated $203,674.42 to Catholic Charities. The
Appeal Drive was successful again this year, although the need is still great. If you
haven't done so already, please make your gift today. All we need is a pledge - as much or
as little as much as you can afford - every little bit helps.

STRENGTHENING THE CHURCH AT HOME - The second collection today will benefit the
Catholic Home Missions Appeal. Home Missions in the U.S. are places where the Catholic
Church struggles just to keep parishes open and to educate people in their faith. Please
give generously to assist fellow Catholics here in America.
CATHOLIC CHARITIES APPEAL 2004 - As of Tuesday, April 20th, our parish donated
$203,566.42 to Catholic Charities. The Appeal Drive was successful again this year,
although the need is still great. If you haven't done so already, please make your gift
today. All we need is a pledge - as much or as little as much as you can afford - every
little bit helps. If you are employed by a firm that "matches gifts" to
charitable institutions, secure a form from your personnel office and forward the
completed form to the Catholic Charities Appeal Office. Your contribution is used to bring
strength and stability to the community. Please give generously! For more details on
Catholic Charities, call 856-4494 or visit our website - www.ccwny.org.

839-2363. Our next session will be Wed., May 12th at 1:00 p.m. in the Church Library.

Christ's resurrection. We also should have celebrated with the hundreds of thousands in
our country who became part of the Roman Catholic community by receiving the Sacraments of
Initiation. Next year would you or someone you know like to join this faith filled group
and become members of the Catholic Church? If you would, RCIA is the process for you. For
information about the RCIA process call Celeste at 839-2146 or the Rectory at 839-1430, or
