CATHOLIC CHARITIES
TARGET WEEKEND!!!
Today is the Target weekend for Catholic Charities. You are asked to look into your heart
and give as much as you can. If you are able, please consider increasing your donation
this year. Please indicate the amount of your donation on the card, enclose it with a
check or cash and return it in the weekly collection, to the Rectory or in the mail.
Your support of this year's Appeal is vital. Please consider increasing your donation this
year, by pledging a larger amount, and making payments in several installments. A gift of
$100 is less than $2 per week. Try to join the Large Gift donor group by giving a minimum
of $250. This is what helps make our parish go over the top every year. Let us show Fr.
Joe Sicari (Director of Catholic Charities, who assists at CTK) our support.
If you are employed by a firm that "matches gifts" to charitable institutions,
secure a form from your personnel office and forward the completed form to the Catholic
Charities Appeal Office. Your contribution is used to bring strength and stability to the
community. Please give generously.
One Community of Catholic Charities - One For All. Call 856-4494 or donate online and

THE CTK BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GROUP will meet on Tuesday, April 4, 11, 25, 9 and May 23,
from 7:00 until approximately 9:00 pm, in the Church Library. When we lose a loved one by
death, we are wounded. Just as a wound does, we need to heal from within, to express our
thoughts and feelings, even when they seem crazy. A support group is a safe haven where
those grieving the death of a loved one, can talk, share our anger, guilt and fears with
those who understand and care. For details, call Linda Maslona 839-2363.
THE CTK SENIOR CITIZENS GROUP meets for an afternoon of fun on the 1st & 3rd
Thursday of each month. Please join us on Thursday, April 6th, from 1:00-4:00 in the
Chapel Meeting Room for an afternoon of coffee and cards - pinochle, bridge, poker, or
just to meet other seniors from CTK. Please park in the large parking lot,. Only use the
inside parking lot if you are handicapped. If you have any questions, please call Dan at

TIME TO GIVE BACK: Fr. James Kingori, one of the Consolata Missionaries that celebrates
the 11:00 or 12:15 Mass at CTK, will be returning to his home in the remote village of
Ngarendare, Kenya in Africa in June for three months. He will be building his father, 81,
and mother, 76, a new, safe and comfortable structure to live in. Currently his parents
live in a beehive-shaped hut made of mud walls, a straw roof and a dirt floor - the dirt
taken from ant colonies. They sleep and sit on sacks placed on the floor. Rats and snakes
permeate the structure. There are no bathrooms, and the water they use for cooking,
cleaning and bathing must be carried from a river. Even though the new structure he helps
build won't have electricity or running water, he hopes his parents will be able to live
their remaining years in some degree of comfort. But this can't be done without money, so
donations are currently being accepted to help Father James and family. Donations may be
made in care of Lawrence J. Funk for the Father James Fund. For more info, contact Mr.
Funk at 778-5655.

CEMETERY OF THE INNOCENTS - Last Sunday, the CTK Youth Group joined members of the
Respect Life Ministry in a prayer service memorializing the babies killed by abortion, and
asked God's love and mercy to fill the hearts of all those touched by abortion. 330
crosses (representing the number of daily abortions in NYS) were placed on the front lawn
of the Church creating a Cemetery of the Innocents. We must Pray and Act - stand up for
life from the moment of conception to the moment of natural death.

Church. The Easter Vigil will begin in a darkened Church with the lighting of the fire and

light a candle signifying Christ entering the Church. Scripture readings will be
proclaimed, baptismal vows will be renewed, Nancy and Paul will be Confirmed and Paul
welcomed. Immediately following Mass a reception will be held in the Parish Library for
everyone so that they can congratulate our RCIA neophytes. Please come and share with us
this very special event.

fears with those who understand and care. For details, call Linda Maslona 839-2363.
JOURNEY IN FAITH AND GRACE
" As the Diocese of buffalo prepares to restructure its parishes and schools, there
is a two-fold purpose: 1) to ensure that parishes will have the membership, leadership and
resources to be vibrant centers of Catholic life. 2.) To foster academically excellent and
financially sound Catholic Schools that will give witness to Gospel values through their
environment, teaching and activities.
" Most quasi-parishes, commonly known as missions, were established at a time when
distance was a hardship and there was the hope that a growing population might eventually
result in a mission becoming a parish. Where transportation and the custom of traveling
distances to meet other needs are present, and where the church population has not shown
an increase, serious consideration should be given as to whether a mission is necessary.
Decisions will attempt to promote the common good of the entire diocese and evidence a
deep concern for what will best serve future generations.

CATHOLIC CHARITIES APPEAL 2006
At Catholic Charities today we rejoice with you in the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior
Christ Jesus! We also want to Thank You - you proved again that you are a part of the one
for all community of Western New York. The time and treasure you dedicated to Catholic
Charities Appeal 2006 will help return people in our community to a place of strength and
stability.
Help us reach our goal of $10.9 million by sending in your contribution or pledge. Your
support of the Appeal is vital. As of Tuesday, April 11th our parish has collected
$207,460. Please consider increasing your donation this year, by pledging a larger amount,
and making payments in several installments. A gift of $100 is less than $2 per week. Try
to join the Large Gift donor group by giving a minimum of $250. This is what helps make
our parish go over the top every year. Please indicate the amount of your donation on the
card, enclose it with a check or cash and return it in the weekly collection, to the
Rectory or in the mail. Let us show Fr. Joe Sicari (Director of Catholic Charities, who
assists at CTK) our support.
If you are employed by a firm that "matches gifts" to charitable institutions,
secure a form from your personnel office and forward the completed form to the Catholic
Charities Appeal Office. Your contribution is used to bring strength and stability to the
community. Please give generously. Let us be the ONE FOR YOU and we will continue to be
the ONE FOR ALL. Call 856-4494 or donate online and learn more about the help we provide
at www.1-for-all.org .

ANOTHER REASON FOR WANTING TO SPEND 1 HOUR WITH JESUS IN THE BLESSED SACRAMENT:
"Prayers are like seeds. It takes a while to see the results after they're planted.
Sometimes it takes months or years for an answer. Seeds start out small, but they end up
fruitful, just like prayers. Alaska Radio Mission, April 2004
YOUR SPIRITUALLY ADOPTED BABY-Two Month Developing Baby: Your baby is making progress
developing all of his external features and internal organs. His brain is functioning at
40 days. His mother can hear his heartbeat now on an ultrasonic stethoscope. His
milk-teeth buds are present at 6 ½ weeks, and it has been reported that a two-month old
baby can suck his thumb. From this point on, your spiritually adopted baby grows and
refines his body, but everything he needs to survive once he is born is already present by
the end of the 8th week.
TIME TO GIVE BACK - Fr. James Kingori, one of the Consolata Missionaries that
celebrates the 11:00 or 12:15 Mass at CTK will be returning to his home in the remote

degree of comfort. Donations are currently being accepted to help Father James and family.

Happy Easter!!!
Dear Parishioners,
Greetings in the Risen Lord. How fortunate we are to be a resurrection people; people
immersed in the belief that Jesus has conquered sin and death for us by His death and
glorious Resurrection.
As we gather at this time of year, renewed and refreshed in our faith, we join together
as a parish family to renew our baptismal promises and our fidelity to the Risen Lord and
His Church. May God's blessings remain with all of you as we celebrate together and sing
our "Alleluias' until the Lord shall come again.
On behalf of our priests and sisters who serve here, we wish each of you a Blessed
Easter. Many thanks for your thoughtfulness in cards and gifts this Holy Season.
In Christ our King,
Msgr. James Lichtenthal
Father Joe Sicari
PERPETUAL EUCHARISTIC ADORATION CHAPEL will close on Wednesday, April 12th at 6:00 p.m.

THE LITTLE WHITE BOOKS
The Little White Books with reflections for the Easter Season are still available in the
back of church today. These are used as a continuation of the Little Black Books, which
were distributed for Lent. The Easter Season begins on Monday, March 28, and continues
through Pentecost, Sunday, June 4.
"God granted that Jesus be visible, not to all the people, but to us, the
witnesses chosen by God in advance." Acts of the Apostles
Question of the Week: How can you be a witness to Easter hope in one concrete way this
week?
Faith Response: Make room for Alleluia today. Rejoice, sing, dance, feast, love, hope,
live, believe.
EASTER THANK-YOUS EXTENDED TO
The Altar Decorating Committee, for the beautiful display of Easter flowers in both our
churches. Thanks especially to Loretta Stachura for her hard work in organizing the flower
order.
" Dan Staszak, our maintenance Supervisor, for all the extra work he has done to help
prepare our churches for the Easter celebration. His preparation began 3 weeks ago with
the polishing of the brass and copper candlesticks, and continued through Easter, helping
Msgr. make sure everything was where it should be for the appropriate celebrations. Thanks
also to Eric Voglmayr who works with Dan to help keep the churches looking their best.
" Christina Shrewsbury, Director of Music Ministry, and the Parish Choir, who helped
make the Lenten Season so special, especially the Holy Week services. It is wonderful to
reintroduce the Grand Alleluia's at the Easter Vigil and the Easter Masses.
" Eileen and Mike Summers for their help in setting up the Repository on Holy
Thursday and helping to cover the statues throughout Church for Passion Sunday.
" To our Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, Altar Servers and Ushers for their
dedication to these ministries throughout the year, and whose presence assists our priests
during the Mass.
EASTER DUTY
Part of our Lenten regulations requires us to "perform our Easter Duty", that
is, to receive Holy Communion at least once a year, between Ash Wednesday and Trinity
Sunday, which is on June 11.
RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults)
RCIA is a process through which newcomers are welcomed into the Roman Catholic Church, and
others complete their initiation in our faith. We are proud of our candidates who have now
fully entered into our Catholic community. Those of you who attended the Easter Vigil were
fortunate to witness Nancy Burns and Jose (Joe) Reyes as they received Confirmation and
welcome Paul Swisher into our Roman Catholic Church. They have been studying the Catholic
faith since September and have grown in their spirituality as they grew closer to Jesus
Christ. Let us pray for Nancy, Joe and Paul as we celebrate with them as they are fully
initiated into our Church family.

one by death, we are wounded. Just as a wound does, we need to heal from within, to

haven where those grieving the death of a loved one, can talk, share our anger, guilt and
fears with those who understand and care. For details, call Linda Maslona 839-2363.
JOURNEY IN FAITH AND GRACE - MODELS OF FAITH RESTRUCTURING & LEADERSHIP
Considering the reduced number of priests who will be available for ministry in future
years, there will need to be fewer parishes as well as new models for organizing and
staffing those parishes.
The single parish with its own pastor will be possible only in parishes with very large
congregations. The pastors of these large parishes ordinarily will not have the assistance
of a parochial vicar as is sometimes possible today. The parish should determine which
parish ministries require a priest and which could be performed by a deacon or lay
ministers. The parish should then hire the support staff needed, especially pastoral
associated and a parish business manager.
LETTING GO OF THE HURT- Fr. Leon Biernat will discuss How to Forgive on Thursday,
May 4th at 7:30 p.m. in St. Benedict Church, Main Street at Eggert in Amherst. Discussion

required. For information, call 834-1042

Anne, is allergic to almost every food and environmental allergen. The family has spent
over $60,000 out-of-pocket for medical expenses. Univera Health Care (their HMO) is
refusing to pay for the life-saving medical treatments that are keeping little Anne alive.
Anne's mother, has appealed to the NYS Dept. of Health, the NYS Dept. of Insurance, and
the NYS Attorney General's office for help, but all 3 state agencies are failing to
enforce NYS health care statues. This family is out of money, and out of options to

respond with a list of ways you can help make a difference in Anne's life.

CATHOLIC CHARITIES APPEAL 2006
ProjectTruth is an abstinence-until marriage and character-based education program that
teaches Western New York adolescents good decision making skills they will need to make
healthy life - affirming choices. It is administered by Catholic Charities through a
federal grant. To learn more about this program conducted throughout the diocese, call
(716) 332-3910.
Help us reach our goal of $10.9 million by sending in your contribution or pledge. Your
support of the Appeal is vital. As of Tuesday, April 18th our parish has collected
$215,455. Please consider increasing your donation this year. You can pledge a larger
amount, and make payments in several installments. A gift of $100 is less than $2 per
week. Try to join the Large Gift donor group by giving a minimum of $250. This is what
helps make our parish go over the top every year. Please indicate the amount of your
donation on the card, enclose it with a check or cash and return it in the weekly
collection, to the Rectory or in the mail. Let us show Fr. Joe Sicari (Director of
Catholic Charities, who assists at CTK) our support.

OZANAM SUNDAY - FOUNDER OF THE ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY
"The question which is agitating the world today is a social one. It is a struggle
between those who have nothing and those who have too much; it is the violent clash of
opulence and poverty, which is shaking the ground under our feet. Our duty as Christians
is to throw ourselves between those two camps, in order to accomplish through charity what
justice alone cannot do." Frederic Ozanam

CAN YOU HELP? -4-year-old Anne Garrett (daughter of Lisa Lundy a parishioner) is allergic
to almost every food and environmental allergen. This family has spent over $60,000
out-of-pocket for medical expenses-Univera Health Care (their HMO) is refusing to pay for
the life-saving medical treatments that keep little Anne alive. They have appealed to the
NYS Dept. of Health, the NYS Dept. of Insurance, and the NYS Attorney General's office for
help. All 3 state agencies are failing to enforce NYS health care statues. Out of money,
& out of options to resolve their crisis this they are seeking help. E-mail Lisa Lundy
for a list of ways you can help make a difference in Anne's life Lisa@theroostercrows.com.
Thank you!
