CATHOLIC CHARITIES APPEAL 2001 Target Weekend - March 31st-April 1st
Hope is REACHING. Hope is TRYING, again. Hope is OVERCOMING. You should have received
in the mail, your Catholic Charities donation request, which includes a letter from Msgr.
Lichtenthal, a card with your name on it, and a return envelope. Please indicate the
amount of your donation on the card, enclose it with a check or cash and return it THIS
WEEKEND (March 31st - April 1st) in the collection basket. Your support of this year's
Appeal is vital. Please consider increasing your donation this year by pledging a larger
amount and making payments in several installments. A gift of $100 works out to less that
$2 per week. Try to join the Large Gift donor group by giving a minimum of $250. This is
what makes our parish go over the top every year. If you are employed by a firm that
"matches gifts" to charitable institutions, secure a form from your personnel
office and forward the completed form to the Catholic Charities Appeal Office. Your
contribution is used to bring strength and stability to the community. Please give
generously!
Hope is REACHING. Hope is TRYING, AGAIN. Hope is OVERCOMING. At Catholic Charities,
hope is found. For parents with troubled teens, for lonely seniors, for a broken marriage,
for someone suffering with mental illness, for a person who is grieving, there is a
special kind of hope from Catholic Charities. You might be surprised at the number of
parishioners at Christ the King who have benefited from Catholic Charities help. Help
Catholic Charities help them. Please be generous.

FAVORS GRANTED THROUGH PERPETUAL EUCHARISTIC ADORATION The Adorers of the Perpetual
Adoration wish to thank Jesus for the following favors: 1) Thank you Lord for this truly
amazing day! 2) Thank you for the successful outcome of surgery. The Tumor is benign!
ANOTHER REASON FOR WANTING TO SPEND 1-hour each week with Jesus in the Blessed
Sacrament: Sacrifice is the Language of Love! A father and mother make many sacrifices to
feed, clothe and shelter their family. Without sacrifice, there is no love. The spirit of
sacrifice is the spirit of Christianity. Jesus sacrificed everything for love of you and
your salvation. Are you willing to make this sacrifice for love of Him, that our parish
may give Him the glory of having perpetual adoration of the Blessed Sacrament?

FAVORS GRANTED THROUGH PERPETUAL EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
The Adorers of the Perpetual Adoration wish to thank Jesus for the following favors:
1) Thank you for reconciliation between my son and daughter.
2) Thank you for all those who take part in perpetual adoration.
ANOTHER REASON FOR WANTING TO SPEND
1-hour each week with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament:
God will bless you ten times as much for making this sacrifice! The Holy Eucharist is the
sacrament of God's infinite generosity towards man. When we are generous in our response
to Him in this sacrament of love, God pours out His infinite goodness upon all mankind.
God will bless you, your family and the world ten times as much for this sacrifice because
God cannot be outdone in generosity. Whatever we give to Him, He gives us back ten, even a
hundred times as much. Those who are generous and will to make a sacrifice by taking one
of the most difficult hours are the ones who bring down God's blessings upon the earth
like rain that pours forth from the heavens. This is why Pope John Paul II exclaimed:
"Let us be generous in our time in going to meet Him." (Dominicae Cenae)
YOU CAN SAVE A LIFE
"However dense the darkness may appear, our hope for the triumph of the Light which
appeared on this Holy Night at Bethlehem is stronger still. So much good is being done,
silently, by men and women who daily live their faith, their work, their dedication to
their families and to the good of society. Encouraging too are the efforts of all those,
including men and women in public life, striving to foster respect for the human rights of
every person." (Pope John Paul II, Urbi et Orbi Message, Dec. 25, 2000)

A THOUGHT FOR PALM SUNDAY
"Let us run to accompany [Christ] as he hastens toward his passion, and imitate those
who met him then, not be covering his path with garments, olive branches or palms, but by
doing all we can to prostrate ourselves before him by being humble and by trying to live
as he would wish. Then we shall be able to receive the Word at His coming, and God, whom
no limits can contain, will be within us.
"In his humility Christ entered the dark regions of our fallen world and he is glad
that he became so humble for our sake, glad that he came and lived among us and shared in
our nature in order to raise us up again to himself. And even though we are told that he
has now ascended above the highest heavens - the proof, surely, of his power and godhead -
his love for man will never rest until he has raised our earthbound nature form glory to
glory, and made it one with his own heaven." (St. Andrew of Crete)

ALTAR SERVERS, LECTORS AND EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS
NEEDED FOR EASTER MASSES
Since so many of our parishioners do "head south" over Easter, those of you who
are still in the area are asked to please help out with the Easter services. Please
sign-up in the Sacristy today for the following:
Altar Servers: Easter Sunday at 9:30, 11:00 and 12:15; and 8:00 a.m. during Easter Week
Lectors: Good Friday at 1:00 p.m. and Easter Sunday at 9:30 and 11:00 a.m.
Eucharistic Ministers: Call Dick or Jean Maslona at 633-0493 to sign-up.
FLOWERS FOR THE CHURCH
The second collection today will be taken for flowers, which will decorate our Churches
this Easter. These donations may be made in a loved one's name. Just put the name on the
envelope, and the envelopes will be placed on the altar during all the Easter Masses.
HOLY LAND COLLECTION
On Good Friday, a collection will be taken for the Holy Land. For Catholic Christians the
Holy Land is a special home across the sea, where Christ was born, lived, preached, worked
His miracles and died. Today, the Holy Land is in need. Most Christians who live near and
care for the Holy Places in Jerusalem and Palestine are very poor or foreign missioners in
a foreign land. For over 800 years, the Franciscan Friars have been charged with the care
of the Holy Places. Our Good Friday collection support their ministry. Please be as
generous as you can with this special act of almsgiving.
GOOD FRIDAY
THE MYSTERY OF THE CRUCIFIXION
Why? Why did it happen? Even after he rose from the dead, even when some of the mystery
had been revealed to them, they still must have asked, "Why? Couldn't it have been
done some other way?" Think of the question. Why? Why? We don't know the answer. It
will be revealed to us on Judgement Day. It will be part of our eternity to come to
understand why. Meanwhile, those in pain, sorrow and distress; those dying and those who
wish they could die, those who bid farewell and those who must say good-bye, they all ask,
"Why?" If we must travel the way of sorrow, he has walked it first. There is no
suffering, no humiliation, no degradation (to be a condemned man, to die under sentence of
capital punishment when innocent) that he has not endured. So we wait for eternity in that
unspeakable expectation of what God has prepared for those who love him. But in the
meantime we must march behind the cross.
"Oh how foolish we are, and how slow of heart to believe al that the prophets have
declared! Was it not necessary that the Messiah should suffer these things and then enter
in to his glory?" - Luke 24:25-26
On this Easter Sunday, we gather to hear the word of God, and to come to the table of
the Eucharist, basking in the light of the Easter Candle - the wonderful symbol of Christ
our Light. We are gathered together to celebrate Jesus Christ risen from the dead, the
Lord of life and the Lord of all. "This is the day the Lord has made; let us be glad
and rejoice in it
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his kindness endures
forever." Psalm 118:24, 29

YOU CAN SAVE A LIFE
"We can travel to the Grand Canyon and visit all the wonders of the world. Yet when
we return home and look into the eyes of a child, we know that there, in the human person,
we find the greatest manifestation of God's grandeur and glory." (Ronald T.
Krietemeyer, "The Pursuit of Economic Justice," Respect Life, 1986, p. 38)
WE ARE WAITING
To help someone or family who is out of work and needs assistance. Maybe it's only a
temporary setback. Call the Rectory and leave a message for our St. Vincent de Paul
Society.
AN EASTER PRAYER
Father in heaven
Change our selfishness into self-giving.
Help us to embrace the world you have given us,
that we may transform the darkness of its pain
into the life of Easter joy.
FAVORS GRANTED THROUGH PERPETUAL EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
The Adorers of the Perpetual Adoration wish to thank Jesus for the following favors:
1) Thank you for bringing me closer to You through Perpetual Adoration.
2) Thank you for your peace and healing to our daughter who is recovery with brain
injury, we give thanks.
ANOTHER REASON FOR WANTING TO SPEND 1-HOUR EACH WEEK WITH JESUS
IN THE BLESSED SACRAMENT:
Through Christ's sacrifice on the Cross, we have the gift of Holy Eucharist. Good Friday
follows Holy Thursday because the passion and death of Jesus was the price that He paid so
that we may have divine, immortal, everlasting life in Him in the new and everlasting
covenant of the Holy Eucharist. The Eucharist flows from our Lord's passion. He poured out
His very last drop of Blood on the Cross so that He may fill you with His divine love each
time that you receive Him in Holy Communion. What a wonderful opportunity we have in
thanking Him for this great gift! Your sacrifice of spending an hour with Jesus in the
middle of the night is thanking Him for all the sufferings that He endured to give us the
gift of the Holy Eucharist.

YOU CAN SAVE A LIFE
We know that the disabled person - a unique and unrepeatable person in his equal and
inviolable dignity - needs not only care, but first of all love which becomes recognition,
respect and integration.
- Pope John Paul II, Homily, Mass for the Disabled, Dec.
3, 2000
FAVORS GRANTED THROUGH PERPETUAL EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
The Adorers of the Perpetual Adoration wish to thank Jesus for the following favors:
1) Thank you for making your gentle presence felt by me during my recent need.
2) Thank you for the deeper appreciation I have felt for my family through adoration.
ANOTHER REASON FOR WANTING TO SPEND 1-HOUR EACH WEEK WITH JESUS
IN THE BLESSED SACRAMENT:
Sacrifice is the key to reparation! Evil must be overcome with good. Greater evil must be
overcome with greater good. The extraordinary evils of the world today must be overcome
with the extraordinary good of perpetual adoration of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. Your
sacrifice in spending one hour each week in the middle of the night will repair for the
evils of the world and open up the floodgates of God's merciful love upon all mankind.
This is why our Holy Father, Pope John Paul II is calling for "unceasing
adoration" asks us to be "ready" to sacrifice that we may "make
reparation for the evils of the world". (Domincae Cenae).
