BUSY HANDS - MANY BLESSINGS
Are you interested in helping others - but find it difficult to commit to a particular
time each week? Do you know how to knit, or are you willing to learn? Maybe you should
consider joining the CTK Prayer Shawl Ministry. Since this ministry first started in
February, over 90 shawls have been knit, which have been blessed by Msgr. Lichtenthal, and
given as gifts to parishioners who have serious illnesses, are shut-ins, or have a need to
be wrapped in prayers. Over 30 women have met and are taking an active part in the CTK
Prayer Shawl Ministry. At each of the weekly gatherings (Wednesday from 7:00-9:00 pm in
the Church Library), a number of women share a gathering prayer, and knit the shawls in a
prayerful, relaxed atmosphere. This a great project to work on as you wait for
appointments, travel, while watching television, or any time you have a free moment. You
are invited to join us at any time. For details call Linda Maslona at 839-2363.

ANOTHER REASON FOR WANTING TO SPEND 1 HOUR
WITH JESUS IN THE BLESSED SACRAMENT
"It's cold! Winter is quickly sweeping upon us. Most of us are not looking forward to
it. However, after a busy summer, winter can offer some quiet time to spend with God. Say.
Winter might not be so bad, after all." - Nome Static, November, 2004
BUSY HANDS - MANY BLESSINGS
Are you interested in helping others - but find it
difficult to commit to a particular time each week? Do you know how to knit, or are you
willing to learn? Maybe you should consider joining the CTK Prayer Shawl Ministry. Since
this ministry first started in February, over 120 shawls have been knit, which have been
blessed by Msgr. Lichtenthal, and given as gifts to parishioners who have serious
illnesses, are shut-ins, or have a need to be wrapped in prayers. Over 30 women have met
and are taking an active part in the CTK Prayer Shawl Ministry. At each of the weekly
gatherings (Wednesday from 7:00-9:00 pm in the Church Library), a number of women share a
gathering prayer, and knit the shawls in a prayerful, relaxed atmosphere. This a great
project to work on as you wait for appointments, travel, while watching television, or any
time you have a free moment. You are invited to join us at any time. For details call
Linda Maslona at 839-2363.

things to enhance their lives. On Christmas Day the community is invited to stop by for

BUSY HANDS - MANY BLESSINGS
Are you interested in helping others - but find it
difficult to commit to a particular time each week? Do you know how to knit, or are you

blessed by Msgr.

THE CHRISTMAS TREE
The Christmas tree was first used in Germany in the 8th Century A.D. St. Boniface, an
English priest, had traveled to Germany to convert the tribes there. One day he went into
the forest and cut down their sacred oak trees. The Germans were scandalized at what he
had done, but he placated them by offering them a small evergreen tree as a sign of their
faith. The evergreen never looses its leaves, so it is a sign of the everlasting life that
Jesus offers each on of us. This reminder that the Christmas tree has a deeper meaning
could be used in our own family. We could begin and end our Christmas tree decoration
sessions with a prayer to make that time sacred so that it does not become just one more
chore to accomplish.
THE LEGEND OF THE CHRISTMAS TREE
Because it stays green all through the year, the evergreen tree is symbolic of the eternal
life offered to Christians through faith in Christ. The treetop points heavenward. A star
signifies the special star, which guided the wise men to Bethlehem. The lights represent
Christ, the "Light of the World." Gifts beneath the tree are representative of
God's gift of His only begotten Son, who brings Hope, Love, Joy and Peace.
INVITE THE CHRIST CHILD HOME
God of Eden, Planter of Trees.
I have invited a tree into my house.
I have set it in a place of high honor.
I have adorned it with lights,
And wrapped it in beauty.
I have scattered gifts at its feet,
And crowned its head with heavenly glory.
Yet my dog growls at it.
And my children look with awe.
And I, even I, who set it there,
Nearly knocked it down in the dark.
A tree indoors?!
I am reminded that it is a stranger here.
Its peculiarity makes it welcome this holy season.
For this season is peculiar as well.
You, O God of Eden, O Planter of trees,
O Breather of life, O Keeper of promises -
You have come down to share this earth.
Wrapped in swaddle and hay,
In blood and bone, in shroud and tomb.
You have presented yourself to me.
And, in that present, miracle of miracles,
You offer to me the greatest gift of all -
The promise of life forever, together with you.
And so, with this tree as a symbol,
I invite you, my Lord, into my house.
Grant that I may set you in a place of high honor.
Grant that I may adorn you with light
And drape you in beauty.
Grant that I may scatter my life at you feet.
And crown your head with glory and praise -
This season, and always.

MERRY CHRISTMAS
AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
Dear Parishioners,
Saturday is Christmas Day, and you may still be preparing for your celebrations.
Hopefully, you will be able to take some time before Christmas to sit back and enjoy the
Wonder of Christmas and the birth of Christ. The priests and sisters who serve you at
Christ the King, pray that you have a Christmas season filled with love and peace.
Christ came to spread peace and love among men and women of good will. May His love and
peace fill your hearts this Christmas. These are the best gifts of all. We thank you for
all the kindness you have shown to us at this time: cards, cookies and gifts. These
remembrances tell us of your love for us and we in turn will remember you and your
families as we offer holy Mass on Christmas Day. May the Christ child continue to bless
our Parish.
Have a blessed Christmas Season and a Happy and Holy New Year.
Sincerely,
Msgr. James Lichtenthal

BUSY HANDS - MANY BLESSINGS
Are you interested in helping others - but find it difficult to commit to a particular
time each week? Do you know how to knit, or are you willing to learn? Maybe you should
consider joining the CTK Prayer Shawl Ministry. Since this ministry first started in
February, over 120 shawls have been knit, which have been blessed by Msgr. Lichtenthal,
and given as gifts to parishioners who have serious illnesses, are shut-ins, or have a
need to be wrapped in prayers. Over 30 women have met and are taking an active part in the
CTK Prayer Shawl Ministry. At each of the weekly gatherings (Wednesday from 7:00-9:00 pm
in the Church Library), a number of women share a gathering prayer, and knit the shawls in
a prayerful, relaxed atmosphere. This a great project to work on as you wait for
appointments, travel, while watching television, or any time you have a free moment. You
are invited to join us at any time. For details call Linda Maslona at 839-2363. We will
meet next on Wed., Jan. 5th.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
Religious Education classes meet next on Monday, January 3rd.
Merry Christmas to all of our families.

CTK SOCIAL JUSTICE MINISTRY
"For I was hungry and you gave me food
" Matthew 25
It is not uncommon for donations and volunteerism to decline in the months following the
holidays. Furthermore, the Cook is away for the Buffalo winter and Sister Jane at the
Little Portion Friary Homeless Shelter is short volunteers to prepare meals on Mondays.
Christ the King parishioners are scheduled to prepare meals for their 28 residents on
Monday, January 10th, February 7th, and March 7th at 10:30 a.m. in their kitchen. It is a
wonderful shelter in a big old Buffalo home. Call Allison Killeen at 839-5225 if you're
interested in joining us for any of these dates.
"THANK YOU!"
¢ Notes thanking our parishioners for their generosity and kindness came from Little
Potion Friary and St. Vincent de Paul for donations made in November.
¢ The faces on the elderly residents at the Erie County Home were precious as they
watched four full carts of gifts collected under the CTK Giving Tree roll in.
¢ Ten Thousand Villages fair trade shop sold many handcrafted items here at CTK on
November 14th, and was grateful to forward 90% of the proceeds directly back to the third
world artisans.
¢ The Social Justice Ministry would like to thank CTK St. Vincent de Paul Society for
coordinating the adopt-a-family for Christmas drive. Our members truly enjoyed gathering
gifts for a Roswell family we adopted as a group.

HAPPY NEW YEAR - 2005
TO ALL OF OUR FAMILIES!!!
From your Parish Priests, Sister and Staff
"THANK YOU" TO ALL WHO HAVE HELPED
OUR PARISH WITH THEIR TIME AND TALENTS
We wish to take this opportunity, with the passing of the old year and the dawning of the
new year, to thank everyone who has increased our enjoyment of the Advent and Christmas
seasons. We extend our thanks to:
Our priests and religious who have served us throughout the year;
Those who provided us with the wonderful music this year: Christina Shrewsbury, our
Director of Music Ministry, the Adult Choir, the Children's Youth Choir, the Neighborhood
Choir, and all the joyful singers and instrumentalists who have prepared, rehearsed and
performed special music through this season. Your gift of music greatly enriched this
liturgical season. Thank you to those who performed special music through this season.
Your gift of music greatly enriched this liturgical season. Thank you to those who
performed in the Lesson and Carols Program, the Advent Chamber Concert Series, and to
those who came to listen and support these events.
The Decorating Committee: Those men and women who gave of their time to decorate the
outside and inside of the church. The churches are very festive and have added to our
enjoyment of the Christmas season.
Our Arts and Environment Committee for the wonderful joy they did with the Christmas
Flowers. It was truly a labor of love.
Dan Staszak, our maintenance Supervisor, who always works above and beyond! The
grounds during the summer are meticulously kept. In the winter Dan puts many hours into
keeping the church and school entrances clear of snow. His hard work is truly appreciated.
Thanks also to Eric Voglmayr who works part-time maintenance with Dan to keep the churches
clean.
Pat Wiedenbeck, who helps to decorate the front door of the Rectory Office with
beautifully decorated wreaths year-round. It is very much appreciated.
all others, whose quiet reliability helps our parish to function smoothly, not only
during the Christmas holidays, but year-round: the Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, and
Altar Servers, who are organized under Renee' Villa, our Pastoral Minister, the Adult
Altar Servers and Mike Summers for arranging coverage for funerals, the Ushers, Greeters,
and the Outreach and Bereavement Committees which are run by Linda Maslona, our Parish
Council Members, CTK Principal Sister Mary Ellen Tucker, Assistant Principal JoAnn
Mikulec, and the School Teachers; Religious Education Director, Peggy Page and the
volunteer Teachers, and our Youth Ministers Mary Ann Peer and Debbi Testa.
Without their dedication to these ministries, the everyday operations at the parish
would be much more difficult. Thank you, may God keep you, and may the joy of the
Christmas season remain with you always.
Msgr. Lichtenthal and Father Joe
