misunderstood today. Whether we do God's work in pairs or as a single person in ministry

VOCATION VIEW
If we really believe in something it does not seem to be a sacrifice to give up everything
else to pursue that one dream. Jesus asks the same as any great leader
total
dedication; but He promises rewards no one else can promise, "You will then have
treasure in Heaven." Come, follow the call of Christ s a priest, sister, brother, or
deacon. If you think God is calling you to one of these, call Fr. Leon Biernat 847-5535.

Q: Why don't we ring the bells during consecration at Mass?
A: In days gone by, it was quite common for the altar servers to ring bells when the
priest elevated the Body of Christ and the cup of the Lord's Precious Blood. After the
Second Vatican Council, the Mass started to be celebrated in the vernacular (the language
spoken by the people attending the Eucharistic liturgy). It was said that the bells
brought people's attention to the action on the altar, as some people in the past had been
praying the rosary or other devotions until the moment when the consecration occurred. In
addition, many churches are quite large and it was difficult to see the consecration
occur. Today, of course, most churches have microphones so that the priest's words are
audible throughout the church.
The participation of the People of God at the Mass is to be "full, active and
conscious" participation. That includes prayerful attention as the priest prays the
Eucharistic Prayer and the host and wine become the Body, Blood, Soul and divinity of
Christ. In most parishes today, a moment of reverent, silent awe is observed as the
Eucharistic Lord is shown. After a moment of silence, we are invited by the priest of
deacon to "proclaim the mystery of faith" in the Memorial Acclamation.
Unlike bells, our voices then ring out in song to proclaim the saving mystery that
"Christ Has Died, Christ is Risen, Christ will come again." While it is not
"wrong" to ring bells at that moment, it has not been the practice at Christ the
King for a number of years. So, let your hearts ring out in that moment of quiet; then
join the song and proclaim what we believe!

revision after to objecting to some of the provisions within the document.

A SENTIMENTAL JOURNEY
We all have special moments in out lives that we especially like to remember - childhood
moments, a vacation, a quiet moment with family and friends, a wedding, graduation or the
birth of a new baby. The moments and people that are important to us have special places
in our lives and in our hearts.
Whether these are memories of a beloved friend, family member or special times together,
memories of moments shared with loved ones are the most treasured of all. These memories
become our history that forms our family traditions, which are passed on through
generations.
Parish Outreach would like to offer the Seniors of our parish a tangible way to collect,
celebrate and pass on their most treasured memories and life stories. Each person is the
star of his or her life. A life story, that when told, is an album, becomes a legacy
We would like to help you organize your photographs, mementos & thoughts. We will be
meeting in the Church Library on Friday mornings from 9:30 -11:00 a.m. beginning November
14th. You will receive a photo album, a pen, tape for photographs & sheets to take
home. The cost is $10. If you would like to register or have any questions, please call
Keri Mayer at 831-1246 or Linda Maslona at 839-2363.
SPIRITUAL ADOPTION
Everyone loves the beauty and innocence of a baby. As an expression of that love, our
parish with the aid of the Respect Life Committee, announces a spiritual adoption program.
Next weekend, members of our parish family will have the opportunity to
"spiritually" adopt a child who is newly conceived this month. You see, not all
newly conceived babies are allowed to be born. In fact, almost 4000 babies lose their
lives to abortion each day. It is these babies, who are in danger of having their lives
ended before birth that you are being asked to "adopt."
You may "adopt" a baby individually or as a family by signing up next weekend.
You will be asked to name the child for whom you will be praying, thereby giving the baby
the humanity he or she deserves. You will be asked to pray for your unborn child and for
all the unborn children for the power of prayer is great.
There will be monthly updates in the bulletin describing your baby's development and your
child will be born in nine months.
There are millions of unborn babies desperately in need of your prayers. Won't you please
"spiritually adopt" one and share the love for life that God has given you?

DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME BEGINS ON SUNDAY, OCTOBER 26TH
BISHOP HENRY J. MANSELL
Pope John Paul II has named Bishop Henry J. Mansell as the new Archbishop of Hartford,
Connecticut.
"With acute appreciation of the need for many prayers I accept Pope John Paul II's
appointment as the Archbishop of Hartford. It will be a high privilege for me to serve in
that capacity, and I thank the Holy Father for the confidence he has expressed in me.
Having the highest esteem for the Holy Father, I pray that I will be worthy of his trust.
"At the same time it will be very difficult to leave the Diocese of Buffalo. For over
eight years I have witnessed extraordinary grace at work in the eight counties of Western
New York. It is a diocese richly blessed. Every day I reflected with gratitude on the
honor it was to serve the clergy, religious and lay people there. I am sure we will
continue to be united in prayer for the years ahead.
"The Archdiocese of Hartford enjoys a hallowed and distinguished history. I look
forward to meeting with everyone possible across the Archdiocese and to working with all
the clergy, religious, and lay people who make up this special family. I am fortunate to
follow Archbishop Daniel A. Cronin. His wisdom and love for the Church are renowned
through the United States and well beyond.
"There will always be challenges. May God bless us all that we may serve as a Church
of profound prayer and vigorous work, attuned to the prompting of the Holy Spirit."

VOCATION VIEW
The blind beggar Bartimaeus would not listen to the many people scolding him to be quiet,
but shouted all the louder in prayer, "Son of David, have pity on me!" Only then
did Jesus call him over and answered his need. Bartimaeus become a powerful example of how
persistent we must be in prayer when we are asking God to show us His Will for our lives.
And then, ask Him for the grace to accept it. If you feel God is offering you the grace of
a Church vocation, call Fr. Leon Biernat at 847-5535.
